Need a MB able to run server 2008 R2

My requirments:

WS2K8R2
Needs to work with ECC RAM
Would like a socket 1155 or 1150
Need no less than 4 SATA ports, but prefer more.
$150 tops.

$150 tops for a server motherboard? Not going to happen unless you find one open box/used. Least expensive I've found would be this ASRock C226 based ATX motherboard for $194. Is there a particular reason you need to have ECC RAM? Because there are tons of motherboards out there that meet the rest of your requirements and come in well under cost. The other option would be to go AMD as most of their boards support ECC without requiring a server chipset.

Not gonna get Intel ECC for $150 unless you look for a 1156 board, maybe. I found this, but it blows the budget:

Seems to be OS (Win Server) compatible, but I'm NOT 100% sure.

It seems to be intended for headless server use (IPMI2), rather than HDMI etc.

EDIT: As the previous posters have said, (new/recent) ECC/Intel/Server boards are usually significantly above $150.

A simple search at Newegg in server motherboards, using the filters, shows 3 candidates under $150 and if you stretch the budget to $160, 10 candidates, 18 possibles @ $170.

Not sure which ones you're talking about that are under $150, because the ones that turn up either don't meet the op's criteria or aren't ones that I'd recommend, especially since one is out of warranty. I did miss one though that's all of $5 over budget first time round though so the op may want to take a look at the Supermicro MBD-X9SCL. It meets the requirements even though I'm not a big fan of using previous generation CPUs it's not like they're terribly out of date.

Unfortunately that board does not support ECC RAM which the op stated as a requirement.

Oh, the spec sheet on Newegg is in error then. Kinda wondered about that, never heard of Q87 supporting ECC but then again I have only run across it a couple times.

I think they meet the OP's specs.
The SM board is current production and definitely not out of warranty and can use ECC memory.

Both the Asrocks are QVL'd to work with ECC memory.
The Q87 chipset should be a problem with ECC since it doesn't control memory, as the memory controller is on the CPU, so as long as he's using an E3 it shouldn't be a problem.
I3, 5, or 7's don't support ECC though.

But, yes, I would spend a little more and go with a board using a 200 series chipset for a server.
