Need a Low Profile\Half Height ATM Card

ATM networks really aren't my specialty, but since we're responsible for the end-user hardware, we get the joys of finding the NIC :p

Recently, someone purchased some small form factor client desktop PCs that ONLY have low profile\half height PCI slots. Since the network is ATM only and we can't run through a transceiver, I need to find a low profile\half height OC-3 ATM card that fits in a standard 32 bit PCI slot or in a PCI-E 1x\4x\8x slot (and has Windows drivers). I haven't had any luck thus far from our normal sources, and all our cards are full form factor so they physically won't fit in the system. Searching around online didn't yield any results outside of router/switch level hardware which was module based anyway. I checked with our networking crew, and they didn't have any idea either.

So, does anyone have any ideas? Preferably with ordering links or information. Since I probably won't be able to reply being at work (at home now), many thanks in advance.

i think you are screwed dude. I looked for a few minutes and didn't find anything, even linux based. Also, why run an OC-3 into a workstation/client?????????

Yea, we pretty much figured we were. We're responsible for system hardware, which sometimes extends to other facilities to a select few systems. The other facility in question requisitioned yet another facility for computers. Said second facility sent 20 small form factors without bothering much with requirements. Facility one then sent it to us to image and add in networking gear. Of course, nobody in the chain bothered to even *ask* us, but welcome to crowbar level separation of duties :p Can't really go into much more detail then that, but it's pretty much of a "they say they want this, we try to wedge in a solution" kind of situation.

Thanks for the help anyway :)

Well, the places we used to get ours were from

Fore Systems / Marconi
3COM
Syskonnect
Olicom
Proteon
and IBM

I don't think any of them can spell ATM any more.

I still have a few boxes of Fore Systems 200s and probably some 3COMs, none are hal;f-height, but the 200s are ~ 3/4 cards, maybe a little smaller.

None are (obviously) PCI-X

Maybe I can shoot you one or two to try out. Before ATM buckled, Microsoft incorporated Fore SYstems ATM drivers into WIN2K ... maybe XP as well (I just don't recall).

Good Luck

Thanks for the offer, Scott, but we've tried that same FORE card here without luck. This case is literally just a smidgen bigger than the length of the half height PCI slot cover. I talked with another coworker, and he *thinks* he might have found a manufacturer that has one, but hasn't gotten back to me yet. I'll update the thread here if he finds anything, just in case someone's interested. I know that some of the newer Sun's, like the v240 series, has half-height slots, so it could come in handy later on.

Thanks again :)
