I'm definately up for doing it however. I'm doing some stuff within the church, im just wondering if there's anything else out there.

I'm on the job process. I've turned in a bunch of applications (around 10) about a week ago, and I am waiting for some replies. None yet. :(

I agree that I definately need to find some hobbies thoguh. That is probably the most important thing i need to work on, because without interests its hard to relate.

So how'd you meet these people that played warcraft 3 and counterstrike?

Well, me and one of my acquaintances that I barely knew through high school started playing Warcraft 3, and we hung out in our old high school channel, and I met a couple other guys that frequented the channel too, and chatted with them, and a few more people here and there who were friends of these first few guys I knew would play together (we had a group of about... 6-10) and through that I got to know a few of them and just hung out.

There should be much more than 1 club in your school. Look up some community service clubs, social activity clubs, culture clubs, Christian clubs, etc.

Also, about the partying bit, I don't think you need to worry about just going to them. I mean, I really abhor going to parties in which I don't know anybody. Not only do I not really have much fun, it just seems like I can't relate to a lot of the people around. I'm not saying I don't go to parties, however. There've been quite a few I've had fun with, and it's always with friends. I'm really not a partying kind of guy, but let me loose with 15-20 good friends and we can drink/smoke/dance the night away and it'll be great fun.

Just going to a party by yourself is NEVER fun, trust me... there are only a few people out there that can truly be a "life of the party" and get to know everybody, and if you're having problems meeting people now, then you probably aren't one of those kinds of people. Partying IS fun, and I'm sure even you would have fun (maybe you don't even need to drink or smoke, just have a LAN/Halo party or something), but only if you do it with people you're comfortable with and you know well. Don't take a negative attitude towards partying just because you don't like what you see from the outside - I was like that before and it's just not a healthy social train of thought.

NewSC2,

that sounds cool,
I think you are right about how if you have a hobby or some kind of common ground with someone it's really helpful in relating to them.

for clubs at my community college, they have like these weird kinds of clubs like Phi Theta Kappa (not even sure what thats about) a Drama club, a Christian Club (which unfortunately meets during one of my classes) and they have some intramural sports, that meet one day a week for a couple months (not really providing much of a social ground but perhaps could be fun to do)
I may have to check into some of those things some more.

As far as the whole partying scene goes, it's not that I really have a problem with the concept of a party persay, its more so the typical 'party scene' i run across. By that I mean one where alcohol is everyone's common ground. I don't condone drinking alcohol nor smoking weed, nor doing any kind of drug to get a 'high'. I don't condone sexual activity with anybody either unless you 2 are married.
All of this because of obvious health and other reasons, but more importantly because I love God.

If I can find a party that's just about people getting together and having a fun time, finding things to do besides drink alcohol, that's totally cool. I will probably have a lot more fun at this party and I will find a lot more people there I can relate to. I've been to parties like these before and they have been fun, and I can usually get along pretty well in this kind of atmosphere, and feel socially comfortable.
I may not be the life of the party, but I manage to find people to talk to and have a good time.

Well, hope that clears up a little uncertainties about me. thanks again for the replies, and I think I am off to go find something productive to do! :)

We were driving back from somewhere heading to our favorite pub, it was night time and what not and my friend saw 4 asian ladies walking on the side of the road... i had no idea what he was doing at the time, but he suddenly slammed on his horn then veered towards them. i swear to god the expression on their faces had me laughing like i never laughed before in my life. One woman almost sh¡t a brick, another dove out the way....my god it was hil frickin larious.

More like 23.50, on average. Do I have a lame ass life because I don't drink or smoke pot?

No, you do because you sit your fat ass on a website all day and then act condescending to people whose lives aren't as depressing as yours.

sounds a lot like a friend of mine.

only she still sits at home a lot and wonders why she doesn't go out. she does work and go out with people from there from time to time but otherwise she's at home a lot. or going out to family functions.

i think she's just a little lost right now and not sure what she wants to do, plus taking her sweet time to get through school. (21 and still right around freshman standing) it doesn't help when all your friends go away because you feel lost and alone.

go out and do things that feel sort of comfortable to you. trying anything drastic will just have a negative ramifcation on you.

Mabey it's just because you are a boring, time wasting, self loather. ;)

On the real though, you know EXACTLY what you have to do. Posting on a geek site isn't going to provide the push you need to get off your lazy a$$ and do them.
Stop debating with yourself, and start not caring, you will get A LOT further.

This post is just another step in solidifying your own opinion, based upon the very obvious.

The last thing people with mental disorders like general anxiety need is substance abuse.
The whole human population has "general anxiety", can you make another horrible sweeping generality, they are amusing.

The bottom line is that I have a life... it doesn't consist of smoking drinking and working out.

I work out, I'll even admit i'm a little fat, so I don't have a great self image. The reason why I have a lot of friends is because I'm funny and a lot of fun to be around. I didn't make my friends by conforming and haning out with people just because they drank. Drinking and smoking is just what we do for fun on the weekends...we're not burnouts, most of my friends go to college. I easily become friends with people, because i have a good personality...I like to laugh at everything, and that includes endangering the lives of old women. My range of friends includes nerds, average people, all the way until to ghetto ass inner city kids that'll kick even my ass. That's why i'm only on ATOT when i'm bored during the day or multi-tasking between homework, because I have other crap to do when it's time to hang out.

ive found it's possible to multi-task buddy, many peoples computers are on a desk, and they place their homework in front/side of their computers and study as they push the refresh button on AT. (it requires brain power though, so you might have to opt out of this technique)

Sounds like someone has issues. If you think all I do is sit on my ass and post on AT, you're sorely misinformed about my life. However, if it makes you feel better to make fun of me as you grasp at straws for some semblance of self-respect, then by all means, do so. :)

What a truly fulfilling life you must lead. I remember people like you from college. Hanging around in groups, grunting and sometimes pointing at things. I'm sure if I had given them a bag of rocks to play with they'd have spent hours beating them together and arranging them into little piles. But hey, someone has to deliver my pizza in 30 minutes or less. Keep up the good work!

Woah sorry if it seemed like I cared about your life. I was just going from the billions of posts you have and the general attitude you show in this and other threads. Sorry about the mixup, try to find compatability elsewhere buddy.

Haha, you actually cared enough to notice my "attitude"? What attitude would that be?

How am I trying to find "compatability"?

In response to your post:
Are you bipolar? A buddy of mine has that and with meds is normal (hes a cool cat though), you may want to check into a shrink or something. Its nothing to be ashamed of, they can do wonders. If you lived around here i would take you to some parties here at u of cinci. You sound like a nice guy just a little shy. Dont listen to the guys talking about smoking w33d, i dont know if you drink socially (not getting wasted) but that helps break the ice with girls sometimes (depends how old you are), but that is certainly not the only option to meet people. Start feeding your brain here at anandtech and you will have a new hobby that kicks arse!
Hell, when i came to school here in Ohio i had to find a hobby other than surfing, this place rocks. If you need a buddy online msg me on aim campxcounselor :D.

On a side note thank you EVERYBODY for your replies!! Some of you have some good insight.

I'm not bipolar, but I have another disorder that's kind of similar, which involves me having problems with anxiety and a lot of obsessive thinking. I'm checked into a shrink right now, and am on meds too, and so far it seems to be helping.
sometimes I can be a little shy, but overall it isnt that bad, I just think I need to get off my butt and find some hobbies and activities to get involved with where I can meet people. Right now i think I just need to be setting up more opportunity.
anyways you seem like a nice person, and thanks for the offers, i might message u next time im online.

OH, and for everyone else here I have something to say about the controversy going around:

There is nothing wrong with posting on the internet a lot as long as you do other things with your life. Addiction is bad, being addicted to the internet is bad. which is why i dont go on here much, heheh.

And as far as substances go.. I am against that stuff because of my religous stance but also because I just don't believe they lead to true happiness in life, or are worth risking around with for any fun they can offer. That's why I don't have even one drink, because I dont want to be tempted to get drunk and get addicted to it(and I also dont wanna get fat from beer, lol) and I dont want to try weed because I could get addicted to that, as anything that makes you feel good can be addicting.

I don't automatically dislike someone for drinking or smoking weed, but I've found in the past that usually I don't find those people as interesting as the one's who don't do it period, just something I've noticed for some reason, probably because they share a similar religious standpoint as I do, which is good.
