Spidey07. We've both been on this board for several years, and I've always admired your posts. I feel like I've known you for so long and that we are so close. Can I borrow $4000 to pay off my car loan? I really need it.

Does this friend of yours happen to have breasts?

You sound gullible.
Exactly!!! Why can't the "friend" get the money themselves?
You should only loan money when you don't need it. Don't be a fool son, she aint worth it. Come clean now, it's a woman, right?

situation sounds like recipe for big time disaster. you don't have the money. find some other way of helping your friend. like e.g., offering support and encouragement.

The fact that I'd at minimum require a contract or collateral and would be far more hesitant if the borrower were overseas or if I didn't already have the money to be loaned in-hand doesn't mean I wouldn't do it. I'd just do it the smart, safe way

In fact, I can think of two separate occasions where I've loaned close friends $1,000+.

I will never let anyone borrow that much money without collateral. That is a large amount to let anybody borrow including family or friends. If he is really serious about needing the money, he will give you something greater than the amount of the money you're going to lent him. Otherwise, he is going to take your money and run. I wouldn't do it. One of my friend let his cousin borrow $10,000 supposedly for some kind of emergency that was to be paid in full with interest within 6 months. My friend never saw his cousin or his money again.

Yeah, but it's different for you. You have the money to lend, this guy is talking taking out a loan. Would you go into debt for a friend?
