If you're referring to the Lenovo deal you were chasing...if you scan their student store and their regular store, the procing will drop back down in a week or two. Lenovo is very aggressive about discounts. You can also buy a lenovo with a little less HD for now, and add an SSD for cheap at Christmas when the prices crash

That's it. I've decided. I need to get a new computer by the middle of next week (purchased at least). I'm going to need everyone's collective effort to come up with something. I've been scrounging every day I get home, but I feel like a deal is always falling through the cracks.

You're best bet is hold tight on what you want and as long as you have the cash in hand be patient and something awesome will pop up.

narrow down your choices to a couple SPECIFIC models and scan the sources. Lenovo updates their discount list every wed. Other major retailers have deals all the time. If you want to compromise for now, consider getting something with a smaller or slower HD or less RAM since those are easy, cheap upgrade to do after the fact.

Do you really NEED a computer next week? Can your desktop tide you over in a pinch for a few weeks? You'll find a deal within a month. Otherwise, find your favorite box and knock down the config to get to your preferred price point. Unfortunately, all of the lenovo 1080 boxes are $1k+ this week from what I've seen. The Asus @ $999 at microcenter seems a solid deal unless you can find a dell deal.

The problem is I'm selling my desktop PC, and I've had the user waiting patiently for the past week due to certain circumstances in my life. I don't have another PC to use so that's the main reason why I need to buy one almost immediately.

This sony vaio F series fits, but its kinda expensive for what it is :(:
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store...eries-VPCF234FXB/productID.243729900/vip.true
It only fits assuming you consider the $200 off in the price. Honestly, I wouldn't pay that much for an F series.

This Vaio S series might be an even better fit actually: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store...ries-SVS1511GFYB/productID.250638100/vip.true

Other than that Sony Vaio, nothing but the ultrabooks - like gorcoprs said fits from microsoftstore.com

Well, from what I've decided... None of the laptops on the MS store warrant a purchase just for the 360. If you have any suggestions, I'm willing to hear them.

Price range is 1100 and under. I am keeping an eye out on the Y580 for tomorrow to see if there are any deals on it. I'm still looking for something thinner and battery lasting longer though. So we'll see what you guys come up with. :D

EDIT: How do we feel about this laptop? http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/st...52921666457151&categoryId=8198552921644863998

It looks to fit every bill I have. I don't know how good the graphics card is, but I'm not worried about that one bit.

lenovo will have much better sound. Sony's have terrible sound. Also, the Lenovo will have the second bay that will let you pop in a 60G SSD to make the computer MUCH faster. Lenovo ergonomics are also pretty nice (Not just Thinkpad). My wife is still going with the Asus N56 for $999 with the 650 graphics card. They also sell one with a 630 for $899 from Microcenter.

Anything with a 6 cell battery is going to give you ~4 hr life running an i7 and a dedicated GPU. I've tried all angles.

remember to check lenovo store and lenovo student store for best pricing if you go with the y580, and that you can always skimp on the drive and update later to save some money. I bet a 60 or even 120G SSD will cost you $50-60 black Friday.

Happy Shopping.

I can get the Lenovo here:
http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/c...7A&action=init

for 1099$ and then I get $100 back from my CC. Do you think that's a good deal?

(the computer in question is the one with the 1080p and 1 TB/32 GB mSSD.)

Looks good to me. 32gig HDD is pretty small though (only room for the OS and not much else) so I'd plan to upgrade that soon too. Check the HD section here or slickdeals as there's been some really good deals on 120gig+ SSDs lately.

I'd still go with that model though as it has the best mix of other features too: 1TB mechanical drive, 1080p display, blu-ray, etc.

See if Lenovo offers something without the PUNY SSD for more than a $60 savings, which is what you can get a 64G SSD for. If you can chalk up 80-90 in savings on that, you can get a 128G SSD....ZOOM!

I thought the Y580 cam with a range of different HDD sizes. Its only the loaded model that has that POS SSD. I'm talking about buying something with a 500 or 750G HD and then adding your own 128 GB SSD. You'd have to migrate the OS build to it, but that's the way I'd optimize a lenovo Lappy. Their 32GB SSD seems half baked and overpriced.

Lenovo store...third column over
IdeaPad Y580 Laptop - 209945U - Dawn Gray:
If you can live with 500GB drive, that leaves you $100 vs the SSD model to buy a 128GB SSD.

Just a thought.

They only seem to have prebuilt setups with no customize options... that's what I've been trying to do. The other setups aren't great for one reason or another.
