I received a rating of 87 for my application, but wasn't referred for further consideration. Oh well 😛

How did you score your application?

I'm interested. Just out of USAF w/ 5 points preference and active clearance, BA w/ honors, and some quasi-valid experience. I'd like to know how I stack up.

Oh - and thanks for posting this!

Hmmm, I never saw this thread, but my sister just graduated from college and this might be a decent shot for her. Is there still a high demand for these positions?

Sorry demand has dropped big time. People applying for passports is down.

But apply anyways. Make sure to apply for BOTH the 5 and 7.

Could you comment on how much, if at all, that may have to do with Congressional instructions for US CIS to rubber stamp most applicants before they have a standard background check?

Passports has nothing to do with Citizenship and Immigration. In fact C/I is part of homeland security. Passport is part of State Dept.

A lot of people got their passport last year, many that did not even need to. So demand this year is much lighter. That and people are probable going to travel less with gas/food/etc... prices going up so much.

If you need a passport this is a goos time to apply. Wait times and turn around to get your passport are very low.

Hi Marlin, I'm new here. Can you help with some answers to a few ?

I applied for the passport specialist position around the middle of last month (May). I received my "Notice of Results" in early June (it was actually sent three times between 06/04 and 06/11). I received a score of 93 for both GS5 and GS7.

I applied only to the Norwalk (CT) office. Do you have any idea of this location's current hiring needs? Any thoughts on my chances of being contacted for an interview? Timetable?

THANK YOU for ANY assistance!

We have cut back on hiring this year. We have a LOT of extra people this year as the demand for passport is low this year. Between a large % getting a passport last year and not many people travling this year due to gas/prices/etc... demend is low for new passport people.

Your score is pretty good. So you might make the first page or 2nd of the cert depending on how many applied. But if nobody is even chossen then nobody gets a job.
What one person did was take a PP job in Chicago and moved to the houston office aftre 1 year. She had to pay her own moving cost since she wanted the move. But she got the office she wanted and a promotion.

Thanks a lot for the info. At the present time moving is not an option. I am hoping that passport apps pick up again (and therefore hiring also) and that not too many people are trying for Norwalk.

Thanks again

Low 30k is the starting pay. it goes up about 10k a year for the first 2 years if you meet all your numbers. Also the benifits are very good on top of that. I started at $39k and will make $48k now with my GS9. Next year I should be at a 11 which pays 58k.

A lot fo Fed gov jobs are that way. You start low and work up.
