I'm starting to search for the hottest deal I can get on a whole PS2 system. I need the console, extra controller (should it be feedback?), memory and a couple games (what's the must have games?). Hmmm, do I need any extension cables or anything else? I don't play any of this stuff, so I'm seriously in the dark.

I'm searching now for coupons and bundles, but if you know a deal off the top of your head, let me know. Best Buy offers a $20.00 gift card if you buy the console, one or two accessories and two games. Big deal, eh? Buy.Com has free shipping and no tax, so that's a possibility. Any issues with these puppies as far as heat problems or laser trouble? Should I consider extended warranty because of it?

Nothing like starting from scratch, eh?

TIA

Har, do you REALLY think anybody even glances at the "I Wanna" topic? :p

I searched Hot Deals before I posted, but no luck. I did find a $10.00 off $150.00 coupon for Buy.Com, so that would be $190.00 shipped and no tax for the console. No bundles listed, though... :(

Edit: Hell, forget the bundle deal, I still need to know what games to buy! My oldest son likes RPGs and the younger one does too. Any two player games that are "must have"?

Figure out how much it will cost me to get my controller port 1 fixed and I'll send you a PS2 with mem card and two controllers, plus grand theft auto 3, and the new NFS game at a great rate!

I appreciate the offer, but my wife will want something brand new to put under the tree. This is about it for their Christmas present(s). Since I'm unemployed, it's going to be a lot more sparten than usual. We already warned them about that.

Kingdom Hearts (Disney characters). Final Fantasy X (a classic series). Of course theres the more bloddy RPG's....

Not many PS2 bundles. Do you have an old system to trade in? Best bet is look at the sunday newspapers for deals or ebgames.

How come Sony hasn't come out with a bundle package yet? Both Microsoft and Nintendo have a package deal you can get. Is it just because the PS2 is selling so good that they don't need a bundle? I would think they could include at least one game with their system.

Heck, does PSOne even have a bundle yet?

Final Fantasy X! Say no more, that takes care of one game, bundled or not! I was just looking through the top 20 games and didn't see that listed. Guess there's quite a few! :Q

Hmmm, my wife just dropped one of those weekly ads in front of me, and the 11 year old circled for the game cube
  • Super Mario Sunshine
  • Super Monkey Ball 2
  • Tony Hawks Pro Skater 4
  • Star Fox Adventures (coming soon)
  • Animal Crossing (coming soon)
If those games are available for the PS2, should I assume they're just as good as the Game Cube version?

Animal Crossing, Star Fox, and Mario are all exclusive to the GC. Tony Hawk 4 is available for the ps2, not sure about monkeyball.

The GC is $50 cheaper if you think there'll be more games they'd like for that. How old are your sons (is the 11yr old one the older one?)? The PS2 has some great exclusives like FFX, MGS2 (it is on the xbox), and the GTA series (may be too violent for them if you think so), but the GC has lots of good titles too and some games come out for both the consoles

Sony has had bundles! I recall them having one for GT3 when it came out.

Boy, am I a newb!

The 11yo has a Game Cube. My 16yo is the one who loves the Final Fantasy series. He has the latest one that was released for the Dream Cast, but that was a LONG time ago. He has friends with the PS2, so maybe they can swap their FFX (I'm certain she would have it) with him, if I get him something good for trade. His mom would flip if I got him something like "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City". I ain't too keen on that kind of stuff either.

If you don't have access to a local Costco I'll buy it for you and ship it to you (shipping is on me).

the price of those is about the same as buying them seperate

greatest hits titles $20 each mem card $20 extra controller $20

$200 + 20 + 20 + 20 + 20 = 280

not a hot deal IMO especially if you dont want the bundled games GT3 is good but i wouldnt want the other game

unless there is something to the bundle im not seeing

RPGs you say? Final Fantasy X is awsome, one the best ones imo. Don't know how old they are, but GTA3: Vice City is great as well, but it's not exactly a kids game, hehe. Too bad ya missed out on the 3 games for price of 2 deal a few weeks ago, I think that was off amazon if I remember right.
