Need a heatsink fan thing to OC my Xp2400+

i want to OC my xp2400, or at least raise the fsb and lower the multiply enough to run at 333mhx ram(at 266now)

but i just did that, and it rebooted, after i ran 3dmark 03 for some reason, it rebooted when i was just letting it run idle.

anyway, pls point me to some sites or links about HSF for an XP2400+

could someone tell me if this HSF is good>

hate to tell you this but that hsf is for the p4 only. the site messed up the 3400+ is realy 3400mhz or 3.4ghz. your best bet for a cheap hsf is a Volcano 11. its about $26 on newegg. the Volcano 7 is not as good but its only $18

o ya what mobo are you running it could be that to, check you curent hsf for dust befor you buy a new one, look at the fan on the hsf to see if it is spinning, and do you have other case fans or just the hsf and psu.

are you sure it's the heatsink causing the trouble?

anyway if you want quality go for Thermalright. Any of SK7, SLK800, SLK900, SLK947, SP97. For certain models (those with a "U" in model name) you need to check compatibility with your motherboard, because it needs mounting holes or there might be stuff in the way (check lists at http://www.thermalright.com/ ). You will need seperately to get a 80 or 92mm fan of your choice for to go with it, Panaflo L1A is a popular choice though anything that pushes the same or more airflow should do. .

that website also has thermaltake silent boost K7 which would probably do, not as good as thermmalrights but cheaper.

i have the ASUS a7n8x-Deluxe mobo with xp2400+ 512mbddr333ram and 9700pro +winXP

DUST>? yes im sure theres dust i havent opend my case for like a 1 year at least

i also have a big fan ON TOP of my case (its about as big as a credit card lenght wise) and 2+ on the back(for HD and psu i guess)

well, today was my first try to OC this pc, and after i ran 3dmark03 and SIsoft sandra.. it started rebooting 3x in a row.. so what else would it be other than heat.?

in my bios it says my cpu was running around 45(lowest) to 52 degrees C while idle( at boot)

can you tell me how to get a temperature gauge on my desktop somehow.. so i can see what its running at whil eunder a load?

ok, now after i get that,how do i install this thing? ( ive never done it befor)

i hope it comes with a manual.

also, should i get some of that arctic silver 3 paste stuff? or is the one they give you(i think it comes with paste but maybe not) good enough for a heavy overclock?

1 more thing.. what steps shoul di folow when installing this thing..?

like unplugg pc? take out mobo? take off currnt hsk, and put in new one or what? anything else i should dissconnect??

I dunno, I've no idea how you went about the overclock. Taking a 266FSB 2400+ and slapping it up to 333fsb isnt exactly guaranteed to work just because the multiplier is taken from 15 to 12 to "compensate" to result in similar overall mhz.

That said, 52C sounds a bit high for idle temps, I take it you've tried reducing the multiplier down at 12? should result in roughly same mhz at 333fsb, and hence should be stable if the cpu is going to do 333fsb.

its 46 to 50C for idle...

it wasnt stable at 333fsb, hell it wasnt stable at 300... so ive decide to wait until i get the volcano 11..

how well do you think that will work for my setup>?

as i dont want to shell out 50$ cdn for something that only lowers it 1-5degrees...

a few reviews at newegg said some ppls went down over 20 degrees while some went down 10+ which id be satisfied with.
