Alright so I'm looking for a new headunit, but there are some specific things I need. First off, it needs to be single-DIN. Second, it needs to have bluetooth natively included, not some add-on. I plan on synching up my Android phone, and I want the ability to control my music through the head unit, rather than through my phone. In Michigan it's illegal to text and drive, so I don't even want to take the chance that a cop sees me dicking around with my phone and pulls me over on suspicion of texting and driving.

So far, I'm having a hard time finding any confirmation that headunits can be used to select songs over bluetooth, does anyone know if this can be done? Closest I've seen is Kenwood and Pioneer units that require using their Play Store app, even then I think that's just for transmitting the ID3 tags, I'm not sure it actually allows full control of the music over the headunit :\

OK I know they sync son, but what I'm wondering is can you control the music through the head unit, or do you still need to select songs from the phone?

Go to the store and find out. What you're asking for is going to be hard to find IMHO. Best you can probably hope for is skip forwards and backwards on a playlist.

If you connect via USB it will typically show up as mass storage but you can browse folders, etc.

I had a Kenwood deck that let me skip songs from Amazon MP3 via the head unit. I didn't experiment much with the controls so I don't know exactly what it can do, but it was this one. The only complaint I have is it was hard to read in sunlight. That was a great deck otherwise.

Ok. Since its nice out here today, I'll do your research for you.

What phone do you have and what version of SW?

And you quoted something not specific to Bluetooth, rather to the iPod/iPhone.

Even if you can't control via bluetooth why not just attach a USB stick with music? You can control obviously from the deck that way.

I had a JVC KD-A815, bluetooth and USB... I loved that stereo, it worked great. It even made a ding noise through the speakers when you got a sms or anything on your phone. Was hands free also of course. And single DIN.
