Need A GPU Reccomendation

I'm building a new gaming system, this is what I have so far:

1920x1200 resolution
E8400 3.0 ghz
4 GB DDR2 RAM
750W Corsair PSU with 60amps on 12 volt rail
Gigabyte EP45 DS3L Motherboard

I don't want to overclock anything, as I don't have any skills in that area. I also don't plan on upgrading anything for a few years, so I want only the most modern cards right now.

What I really want is a GPU that won't be bottlenecked by my current setup. I know the GTX 295 came out, do you think this system can handle it without being bottlenecked? I'm only interested in single cards at the moment.

you should be fine using a GTX 295 with your E8400...if in doubt, just OC the E8400, it's pretty common for them to hit 4ghz, that gigbayte mobo should be more than up to the task.

Yeah the GTX 295 is a great card. Do you class the 4870X2 as a single card? I think you may well experience CPU-bottlenecking, but your motherboard shouldnt. If you get a core2quad that will be a great system with either graphics cards mentioned.

The GTX295 is the bleeding edge, -- the rest of your system iis nice, but not exactly on-par with that video card. IMO A GTX280 at $280 after rebate is probablly going to make you very happy. At 1900x1200 you probably will not even see any difference in 99% of what you play.

+1 to that

Also, when you use dual-gpu cards like the 4870X2 and the GTX295, you get issues you would with SLI or Crossfire, mainly the micro-stutter.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will go with the GTX 280. Would it be a good idea to get the overclocked versions for a bit more, since I can't overclock myself?

If you hurry you can get in on the $200 GTX 280 SSC EVGA that buy.com has on sale
