My gf is working on creating a photography business (more accurately working on creating the business name and such, she has the customers and that), and I've been helping her with the technical aspect of it. I just have no idea about the web hosting. I fiddled around with it years ago (a cheap free one IIRC from 1and1.com), but didn't spend too much time with it.

So, I've been trying to find some good web hosting services but don't know if there are really good ones I haven't heard of before or something. Godaddy.com seems to be the best option (unlimited space/transfer, MySQL databases, an SSL cert, and 1k email addys) for $12.74/mo (with a 3 year contract deal). 1and1.com is $20/mo for 300 gb hosting and 3tb transfer.

So, for a photography studio (we would like to set it up with user accounts for people to access their individual pictures) any suggestions on who to go with?

www.webhostingbuzz.com

I've been using them for almost 10yrs now and never had issues with their service or their management. Good prices for the features you get and they're always upgrading their packages and improving the value.

You might want to PM ViviTheMage. He's got his own hosting service and he gives discounts to AT members.

Otherwise, you could check out 3ix. They're VERY cheap... I think I have the $5/month package. I've been using them for about 8 months now and I haven't had any problems, and uptime is pretty good too.

Another + for Vivi. Using his hosting now, and it's been good. Good service and support.

Just got a fairly new book about starting up your own page, but can't for the life of me remember any of the recommended hosts.

Since this is going to be for her business you need to make sure you pick a good host. Webhostingtalk will have reviews of all the well known hosts as well as specials and discounts so definitely go there and read up before you make a choice. Nothing sucks worse then having your host go belly up because they don't know how to run a business, which sadly happens all too often in the hosting industry.
