Hello, I need a good tv tuner, that can be plugged into my Sony Handycam, so I can do video editing, and take snap shots from video, and live tv. I used to have one with my old Sony Vaio computer (it was an ATI all in wonder) and loved it, now I need another. My budget would probably be no more then 125$ or so? I dunno, I would have to see my options. If anyone has any knowledge in this, please help me out, thanks alot!

You could pick up a newer ATI All-in-Wonder card or possibly resuse your old one. What PC do you have now, and more specifically, does it have an AGP slot?

Well its my dads pc, but I use it some times. Right its a custom built pc from spare parts :p

AMD Athlon K7 650mhz CPU
Matsonic MS8107C VIA Apollo KX133 Mobo w/ agp slot
512mb sdram
8gb hdd
250watt PSU
geforce 4 ti4200 128mb version

Can I still use the geforce 4 card w/ a tuner or if i bought an all in wonder, would I have to ditch the geforce?

You would have to ditch the GeForce card if you put the AIW in there. Which version AIW card was it? If the system is used for gaming, anything under an AIW 9000 wouldn't be worth it. Happauge TV cards are often recommended in these parts. For what it's worth, IMO don't waste your money on ATI's TV Wonder series. The picture quality isn't very good and the software sucks IMO.

Ok forget bout tv then, I dont wanna ditch the geforce card (even though it isnt the best video card out there, I dont wanna pay alot of money for a new video card)

So what I need now is just something that will let me capture video/pictures from my camcorder. Any ideas?

You can still get a TV card, just not the All-in-Wonder (AIW) you had previously.

i would highly reccomend against getting an AIW, your basically paying more for a card that you cannot upgrade the video on and still keep the tv capabilities. plus, do you really want ATI making your video capture drivers?

i would also reccomend against an ATI TV tuner card, see this thread

Let me tell you something about ATI.
I have their TV card. Their software has alot of bugs.
THey release upgrades for it. SO I was able to upgrade until version 8.9
8.9 will not install if you have an nvidia 3d card. It instralls fine if you have an Ati card.
SO At some point I got an ATI 9600 se and had it for 3 weeks. I install the newest update for tv. Then I return ATI card and install nvidia card. Ati TV works fine with NVidia card. Only installer wants to punish anyone who has no ati video card by not allowing upgrade. Big Jerks ATI.

The most popular TV card by far on this forum are the leadteks, personally i would reccomend this one because its 10-bit and includes remote and the neccessary inputs, but the cheaper should have vivo also

i have used their AIW stuff at school, and i assume it uses the same software as their tv tuners. those things are very buggy when it comes to things other than gaming. when it comes to the video capture/tv tuner part. the 3d graphics drivers from ATI have come a long way, but the video capture drivers still have a long ways to go.

Name an issue with the WDM capture drivers that you are having.

if i do, the only thing that will happen is that we will have 10 people say that they have never had any problem with their ATI TV tuner card, pointless to play the issue game on these forums if you have not noticed

Well, the simple answer is the Happauge WinTV 250. They run $80 OEM. They have hardware mpeg encoders and use very little CPU. The are the card of choice for HTPC builders and are compatable with all PVR software. They also can be used to capture just about any source too.
