Need a good topic

I have to write a five page paper on any controversial issue and I must take a side. There was a list of topics that the professor gave as ones we could do, but I would kind of like to do something recent that is interesting. I'm not asking you to do research, but is there any cool ones (in your opinion) that come off the top of your head? If nothing comes to mind that's cool. I'm just trying to find an interesting one that probably nobody else would do. Keep in mind that it has to hold enough weight to fill five pages.

My english professor said that he would greatly prefer that pro life vs. pro choice can't be used because the topic has been used soooo many times. So, that kinda puts me out of luck on that easy topic.

Whether or not the 8th Amendment applies to parking ticket fines. (Media coverage has come up in AZ about a guy that is fighting a parking ticket based on the 8th.)

Government funded/operated health care. Every citizen is entitled to it, no matter what insurance they have.
 
Alright. I just had to debate this. Basically, we are the only industrialized country in the world that doesn't have this system. It's where the government pays for a basic level of insurance for its people. If you want more info, you can IM me. Its the same as my username.

A limited "free" healthcare system available to all people that is funded by taxpayers.

Essentially any person could walk into an emergency room without the need of private medical insurance.

Actually, by law public hospitals in the USA aren't allowed to turn you down if you don't have health insurance. You pretty much get treated, placed on a payment plan, and then the middle class and rich help pay for you. That is a pretty big point against it.

Not necessarily. That's one way of doing it, but the government could simply supply people with "health insurance," which would cover the costs, regardless of how the hospital is owned/operated.
 
Actually, by law public hospitals in the USA aren't allowed to turn you down if you don't have health insurance. You pretty much get treated, placed on a payment plan, and then the middle class and rich help pay for you. That is a pretty big point against it.

Well, the taxpayers just give the government money through taxes to pay for the system. The government foots the bill. However, look at waiting lists in Europe and Canada. That alone is something that really irks many opponents.
