need a good newsreader that will view uuencoded files and join multi-part messages . . . any suggestions? Should run under windowsXP and would great if it was freeware! thanks!

Free Agent is free and will do what you want. Agent is probably worth the $30 price if you use it a lot. Others will probably recommend some of the other newsreaders that are slicker, more automated and easier to use, but if you know what your doing Agent (or Free Agent), is a really powerful program.

If you have lots of time to waste try others if not get Xnews which is free. For multipart binaries nothing comes close to it.

For gawd sakes read the manual since this puppy can do much more than what comes in default mode.

NicColt, Xnews looks pretty interesting. If you know, can you tell me if the following is possible:
In Agent if I download a binary and 1 part is corrupt out of 100 I can download that one part from a different
news server and add it to the other 99 to get a good complete binary. I know a some newsreaders will combine
different servers for you so you can get compete binaries from different servers, but the problem with that is if the
file is corrupt (ie. just missing a line or 2) the news reader doesn't catch that and just downloads the corrupt file from your primary server.
I skimmed through the online manual for Xnews and saw no mention of it. That doesn't mean you can't do it, I don't think the
ability to do that with Agent is well documented.

Xnews and Agent are both good, but for downloading binaries, I think Xnews is much better. I like the queuing capabilities and it will retry on errors.
