Need a good handgun

If you didn't read, I am running unopposed for Constable.

I need a good and reliable handgun to carry with me. I am not a gun buff so I really do not know what I want. Any suggestions?

Have you ever shot a handgun before?

EDIT: Go to a range that allows you to rent pistols for a session. Try a few different calibers out and see what you feel comfortable with. Then we can go from there.

I apologize for that. Didn't notice that I pasted it twice.

Nothing like that near here...I can borrow a gun from my local Sheriff however, not a selection there. (Other than evidence weapons and I really do not want my fingerprints on them.)

How big is your frame? Are you large enough to comfortably use a larger caliber and conceal it?

Just one gun? I hope you are going to get more than one being a constable and all, you are going to need all the fire power you can carry.

Yes, I could conceal a larger caliber.

Springfield XD-9 Sub Compact is a great carry gun..small enough to conceal easily, but powerful enough to do some damage.

I'd also suggest the Glock 19 for 9mm.

Since he does have a bigger frame, look for a compact version of the 1911 also.

Also, if you're going to be constable, I would suggest at looking at having at least 2 handguns for CC. Semi-Auto and an ankle-holster with a revolver in it.

glocks are supposed to be extremely reliable but i would never own one because they look like crap.

Would you rather have a crappy looking gun that fires every time, or a nice looking gun that jams on you in a life or death situation? Since it's concealed carry, nobody will ever know he's carrying anway.

.40 CAL baby. Use what the rest of LE uses.

I believe my brother uses an S&W , with a Glock as an ankle gun.
I have a Taurus.
All .40 cal.
