This is a OC build. Trying to pick a GPU that will OC nicely and work well with the rest of my components. Also need to pick out a monitor. I'm going to be using the build mostly for gaming. What is a good monitor for less than $150?

Antec 300
E5200 w/ Arctic Cooling Freezer 7
P45-UD3P
OCZ 550W Modular
G.Skill PI Black 4GB
WD 320GB

I've seen some GPU's that were already OC'd. Don't know if it will be OC'd any further after that to justify buying it instead of the regular version. I figure I can OC it myself to roughly the same amount done at the factory and save a few bucks.

Weird thing you're asking here. GPUs are not like cpus, where you can take an E7200 for example, from 2.53 ghz to 3.9 ghz and make it one of the fastest dual cores on the planet. :)

GPUs overclocking percentage is way smaller then that of the cpus. You can get 10-15% overclock at the max and that if you are lucky. The percentage can be better for low end cards, but there, overclocking doesn't mean anything, since the cards are already very slow. There are reviews about videocards here on anandtech and you can base your choice on those, depending on your budget and monitor size.

And, for you would be much better to just oc the cpu, instead of the gpu. That will hold you back in gaming on quite about any card from the mid range segment.

Absolutely the 4830 paired with that CPU.

Almost a 25% overclock if that's what you are going for. With the overclock you are looking at 4850 stock performance at $30-60 cheaper.

+1, using the 4830 oc'ed myself and it's great for everything but the most demanding games, which I don't really play anyway (Crysis, FC2, etc.)

Kinda weird how we both have monitor related signature jokes :p

But even when overclocked it hangs with the big boys in Crysis. I get a perfectly smooth 25-35fps 2xAA on high at my native resolution.

Would you be able to OC'd a GPU that was already factory OC'd? Would you be able to OC it enough on top of what OC it came with to justify buying it?

I found a 4830 that was OC'd on Newegg, that's the only reason why I'm asking. Is there still headroom after it's already been OC'd?

I read the LCD sticky and all those monitors listed were at least $250 and up, I'm just looking to spend $150. Can you recommend some good monitors? I'm not really keen on the latest monitors out now.

As far as the monitor goes, I've enjoyed this one for about two years, it is a TN but it does the job well (web browsing, video games, and the occasional movie).

The reason recommended monitors on the LCD thread are more $$ is because they have a good blend of price/performance. For example, the G2400HD has virtually no input lag, good color, and good response time and can be had from NCIX.com for $330 shipped with a zero-defect pixel policy.
