I think here is what I need.

All I need is a compact size digital camera, that takes good quality pictures.....Not professional level pictures, but just something for traveling.

I dont need necessarly need any features such as video recording and all that.

The most important is just that it is compact and takes good quality pics.

price range: 150-350 +/- a bit....

Define "compact". To me, my A80 is fine for carrying around, but other people might want something smaller - like an Olympus Stylus, or a Pentax Optio something-or-other (the one that can fit in an altoids tin).

Other than that, I would reccomend most of the Canon A-series: A60 (2MP), A70 or 75 (3MP, 75 is an updated model) or A80 (4MP, and ~$50 out of your price range, at least at full Retail.) Pentax, Olympus and Fuji are all supposed to be pretty good too, although personally I would stay away from Olympus and Fuji because they use XD memory, which is one of the most expensive formats.

EDIT: Look at my post in this thread for links to a couple of review sites. Lots of good info on a ton of different cameras at those sites.

Canon S50 if you can find it on sale/hot deal. Not sure if you would consider it compact or not tho.

Don't waste a few hundred. Invest $400.00.

I reluctantly coughed up that much money for a point & shoot camera, after going through a P72 and S50. Fortunately, I was able to return both of them. I had excellent deals on them too, but they just couldn't do the job they were purchased for. All we needed the silly thing to do, is take pictures at birthday parties, and to use instead of our larger camera. Something you could throw in your pocket, instead of dragging out the big gun.

The P72 was too slow to take the picture, after pushing the shutter button. Your subject would be doing something else entirely, by the time it got around to firing. The pictures it took were perfect, but that issue could not be lived with. The S50 simply could not focus in dim lighting. That was infuriating, and there was no work around for it, so it had to go.

The DSC-V1 strikes the best compromise between tiny pocketable cameras, and full size units that can get the job done right. It better be up to the task at $400.00, and it is! Too bad it has to be so steep, but any less than this just causes disappointment. The Hologram Autofocus Assist is the key to focusing in dim light. Hell, it can focus in zero light! The Zeiss lens is responsible for 4X optical zoom, and tack sharp images. It sucks up battery juice in about 1 hour, but spare batteries can be found for only $18.50.

If you're going subcompact I was very pleased w/ the Pentax Optio S4, which you can get for about $250 now.

The S4i replacement is a bit nicer w/ its larger LCD and charger/transfer base, but you gotta decide if that's worth $100 to you.
