I need a new burner for my new PC. I'd like to stay under $100 but am open to suggestions. Internal becuase of price also. Oh and what features should I be looking for? What's this "burn-proof" I hear so much about?

These Lite-On CD-RW's from newegg.com are excellent for the price. The 12X burner is well under your budget.

Also, burnproof elimates buffer underun errors by stopping the laser when the buffer is empty giving it time to refill up. It's a very nice feature to have on the burner if your gonna be doing other stuff while burning.

burn proof does not make 'coasters' in your cd (empy wasted spaces) its also called buffer underun prevention. say when your doing more then one thing while burning, it stops burning and when your done doing the other stuff it will pick back up burning right where it left off...

Id get a Plextor, i dont know how much they are right now, but mine was worth all i paid for it

BURN-Proof stands for buffer underrun proof. A buffer underrun is when the drive feeding data to your CDRW can't keep up and the buffer on your CDRW, which holds the data that is going to be burned, empties out. The CDRW then has no data to burn and it gives you a buffer underrun error which results in you having to toss the CD and start over. With a BURN-Proof drive, your CDRW will remember where it is in the burn process should the buffer ever empty out and then start from that point when the buffer fills back up again.

The consensus around here seems to be to go with Plextor drives. A lot of people like the TDK drives as well; I have one myself, but both of those are probably out of your price range. Take a look at the 12x10x32 Lite-On drive for $95 at newegg.com. Many people like these drives because they are inexpensive and have BURN-Proof technology. You can get the 16x10x40 version for $20 more. It's up to you to decide whether it is worth it or not. With a 16x you're really only shaving about a minute and a half off of burning time when compared to a 12x.

Get a Buslink (made by Lite-On) 12x10x32... You won't be disappointed, especially if you do Karaoke!

blah blah....

get a Ricoh mp7125a 12x/10x/32x w/ justlink or equivalent (i.e. Aopen 1232a pro w/ justlink, and NEC rebrands)...

justlink is better than burnproof, ricoh is better supported than lite-on, it's cdcopy compatible (and actually one of the recommended to use along w/ plextors), and has the fastest access time available for 12x cdrws..
