Need a good book

I have read The Wheel of Time series, The Sword of Truth series, The ColdFire Trilogy, The Dark Tower series, and George RR Martin's A Song of Fire and Ice series.
But now I need a new book. Any ideas? I like those certain epic type books, like the ones listed above, but I am not sure what is good out there and what sucks.
Thanks

Steven Erikson - Gardens of the Moon

it's the first book in an AMAZING series so far (up to book 5 in the UK)

book 2 comes out in the US soon.

this is probably THE BEST (no exaggeration) fantasy series i have EVER read, and i've read many of them

I'm not really familiar with those books, want to post a hint as to what you are looking for? 😛

Anyways, I'd recommend the World of Tiers series by Philip Jose Farmer. Great series. Red Orc rocks.

EDIT: Link (Vol. 2)

Kind of interesting:
People who bought this book also bought:
? Crossroads of Twilight (Wheel of Time, Book 10) Robert Jordan
? The Fires of Heaven (Wheel of Time Series #5) Robert Jordan
? Lord of Chaos (Wheel of Time Series #6) Robert Jordan
? The Shadow Rising (Wheel of Time Series #4) Robert Jordan
? The Dragon Reborn (Wheel of Time Series #3) Robert Jordan

Where does it rate in similiarity with The Wheel of Time series, and The Sword of Truth series?

Used bookstores are great things. You can find dozens of great books like these in there (I think that's where I got my world of tiers books).

The Thomas Covenant series was also great.

oh dearie me.

do NOT get me started on this.

well, unfortunately i only read book 1 of Sword of Truth so i can't compare it really.

WoT is a series with lots of magic being thrown around with a few really likeable characters (IMO anyway), and a pretty good story (i'm not gonna touch book 10 after reading some of the reviews though)

Song of ICe & Fire is a series with not a lot of magic being thrown around but with lots of deep characters, a story that's really great, and a dark gritty atmosphere.

Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen series is like WoT + Ice&FIre combined, in a sense. It has a lot of deep characters, a dark gritty atmosphere, an awesome storyline (which is still being played out in book 5), and a ton of magic being thrown around. Erikson was an anthropologist and he really uses his knowledge of ancient civilizations to color his world. He made up a ton of new races (none of that stereotypical dwarf & elf & orc stuff here) and set up the entire history of the world for a good 200,000 years. He also makes use of the fact that different people tell different versions of the same story, which
makes for really interesting (and sometimes frustrating) story-telling.

i have to talk about the magic system alone. it's so original (though i liked WoT's magic system too). I really don't wanna talk about it too much lest i uncover some major spoilers.

in any case, if you like fantasy, YOU MUST READ THESE BOOKS.

book 1 - Gardens of the Moon
book 2 - Deadhouse Gates
book 3 - Memories of Ice
book 4 - House of Chains
book 5 - Midnight Tides

I would highly recommend "The Cleric Quintet". I don't remember which series it's a part of (probably Forgotten Realms) but that series is incredible. I own hundreds of those type of books and it's one of my favorites series. And they are written by R.A. Salvatore who is a very creative author.

Alas Babylon - it's about Russia and the US exchanging nukes and how this town in podunk Florida manages to survive the aftermath.

Mote in God's Eye - great sci-fi story about mankinds first encounter with aliens.

Dinotopia (the original one's by James Gurney) - what can I say, these are just badass. 😀

If you just want one book to sit down and read in a few days one of my favorite games is "Enders Game" by Orson Scott Card. Excellent book. More scifi but I've read most of those other books and like Enders game too so i bet you'd like it.

Simon R. Green's Deathstalker series. theyre a lot less complicated and thought-provoking than the ones you mentioned, but DAMN theyre fun! oh, and dont be turned off by the awful cover art- theyre extremely well written.

if u want sci-fi, u canNOT go wrong with Ender's Game (Orson Scott Card) and/or Neuromancer (William Gibson).

i gotta pick up the rest of the Gibson stuff. How are his other books? as good as neuromancer?

and how is Tad Williams' Otherland series?
