Need a good 19" CRT monitor...

Overview:
My current monitor, a 19" KDS Visual Sensations, has been performing faithfully for about 3 years now.. never had a problem with it. But recently it just started to have a new, very slight problem which leads me to believe it's on its way out. Basically, every few minutes the picture will randomly shift just a pixel to the side and then shift back, very quickly. It's not really that bad, and it's actually being good at this moment.. but I figure I'll start researching my options now and save myself some downtime when it finally decides to die.

In a nutshell:
I'm looking for a new 19" CRT Monitor (LCD is just too expensive for now) that has the following capabilities/qualities:

- 1600x1280 resolution
- low dot pitch for a very sharp image (.24 or less preferably)
- flat screen (not absolutely necessary. the flatter the better though)
- good warranty (brand doesnt really matter to me as long as it has a good warranty, 1-3 years)
- a good PRICE! :)

Do any of you know of any good deals lately? I'm willing to pay up to $300 shipped. Any brands I should stay away from? any that are reputable? Thanks in advance, i appreciate the help!

Links to good ones would be great

One that has been mentioned in the past is the Samsung 900NF. Suppose to be very nice. I have my eyes on a pair of the Hitachi 16ms LCDs. Sweeeet.

I know KDS currently has a 3 year warranty on its monitors. Not sure if that was the case when you bought yours. If its a little less than 3 years...why not check it out???

that may be a good idea Bonesdad.. i'll look into it

ill check out that Samsung you mentioned Shogun.. if it's a good price and what i want i may consider getting it.

Also, do you, or anyone know what is the deal with response rates of LCDs and CRTs? Like you were talking about, that Hitachi LCD has a 16ms and that is a really low delay right? How does that compare to CRTs? Are CRTs way faster? I've been staying away from LCDs because I've heard they are slower and can be not as clear, especially in fast motion. I am a die-hard Counter-Strike player and wouldn't want a monitor that would hamper my ability to kill :) (would that 16ms delay hurt? i know 16ms in ping would hurt a little-- everything counts in 3D shooters)

My friend recently bought a 19" Sony G400 off EBay for $100 ($145 with shipping). The G400 is an excellent monitor and for the price, an absolute steal. I have checked out the monitor and it is in perfect condition and looks fabulous. Definately search throughout EBay because there are some really good deals on slightly used 19" CRT's.

ever think abotu picking up another KDS?

i jsut grabbed the KDS XF-9b monitor from walmart for $188+tax

19 inches of flat glory for 200 clams... not damn bad upgrade from my ultra old 17 inch with blurry text and whites becoming yellows

anyway, i think the picture is beautiful and if you were happy with your KDS up until it started "going", why not give KDS another shot. besides, with walmart you're garunteed a good 30 or 90 days to return it, and how can you go wrong at $200 ?

edit: despite the signs at walmart, the moniter does 1600x1200 @ 75Hz

In my experience, the Walmart/Sams KDS 19 is a horrible monitor.

Not only does it have a poor picture right out of the box, but of the 3 brand new ones I have kept track of in the past year, 1 of them is dead and 1 of them has lost the green gun.

i've heard a lot of mixed opinions on KDS..

I've read some people having bad experience with them.. so maybe KDS is a try-your-luck brand.

On the other hand, my personal (and many others) experience with them has been fine. My monitor has lasted me a long time and while not the greatest picture in the world, it also didn't cost me a lot for what I got. I've been pleased with the purchase

Well, I ended up ordering a 19" Hyundai Q910 Flat CRT for $217 shipped, from monitorsdirect... its specs are quite good for the $ (altho i never heard of the brand).. but it has a 3 year warranty which should be good enough.

This should hold me over until they make them new Olight displays (next technology after lcd)...

I have a Samsung P95f+ B. It's the best monitor I have ever had. It will run you about $380, but it is worth it. The geometry is amazing, colors are very natural, easy on the eyes, runs 110hz @1600x1200, it's all around the best monitor.

You've never heard of Hyundai :Q

They even make cars. I think you'll be okay with that, it's not the greatest but it's not the worst either.

haha, i mean i havent heard of them making monitors.. yeah i've heard of them in the cars business. To me it sounds the same as Microsoft going into the car business or something :p

The Hyundai Q910 has some great specs tho:
- $217 (pretty cheap including shipping)
- 19" (18" viewable)
- perfectly flat screen
- .20 horizontal dot pitch
- 1600x1280 max resolution
- 110hHz horizontal refresh rate
- 3 year warranty

here's a nice comparison of some monitors including the one i purchased.

the only monitor i've seen mentioned thus far that also interested me was Schadenfroh's samsclub monitor. $180 for that is quite a steal. Mine's being shipped to me so you must take that into account. No samsclubs nearby me.. boohoo

The Sony G420 is probably the best 19" CRT, but you pay for it.

Personally I use a Viewsonic P95f+, It doesnt have the sharpest text, but it has absolutely excellent colors and is great for games and movies.

btw, there is a difference between the P95f and P95f+, the P95f is a higher quality monitor.

actually, there is a black version :) see this link for a picture.. it's actually black on the bottom and silver-metallic on the top half.. it took me forever to decide between the two, but i ended up going with the white version.. dont ask me why, or i'll just go back into a endless debate with myself on which to choose (even tho it's too late now:)).

this is the best price i could find on the black model, $225 shipped, here (only a few dollars more than my white one cost me)

One that has been mentioned in the past is the Samsung 900NF. Suppose to be very nice.

in this comparison via monitorsdirect.com, the imagequest comes out ahead
against the samsung 900nf.

Link

even the write-up for the monitor on the site claims "It's easy to see why the
SyncMaster 900NF is the most advanced screen in the world.

although the same write-up appears on a number of sites, many reviewers agree
with it, and rightly so for all i know.

so what's missing ? what are the statistics above not saying, overlooking, or ignoring ?
