ok title says it all, i'm not concerned about price, what is a good 17" lcd monitor of FPS gaming and general usage?

also does ghosting happen because of slow reponse time AND because you use the CRT connector

or is it just based on slow response time?

what does using the DVI connector get you hat the CRT one does not? (i have both on my R9700 pro)

I just received my Hitachi CML 174 last night, and while I can't compare it to other LCD's, because this is my 1st one, the colors look pleanty good to me. I only had the chance to try it out with a few games, like Battlefield 1942 and Need For Speed II and Unreal Tournament but I saw no ghosting on it. I plan on running it through the paces this week and by Saturday let ya'll know what I think about it. So far, so good though. :D

Why do some of these companies insist on putting speakers on their high end DVI displays. It drives me nuts.

well, speakers of that quality probably cost nothing to impliment, and its kinda nice to have if you ever cart your lcd somewhere since its so portable, then again it ruins sleek lines.. bah.

I'm not totaly sure but from what i know and can tell DVI connector is "digital" and your signal never goes into a "ramdac" so it's much cleaner. I've notices this my self with my digital flat panal lcd... it also uses "dvi" and looks better with images "2d" and prob 3d stuff too then my other lcd that uses standar vga connector! if your cards have the hook ups get the DVI :)

Are you trying to tell me you have never heard of NEC??? :) NEC is in my and many others opinion the finest monitor manufacture. The other ones are also pretty big names.

Between NEC LCD1760NX and Hitachi CML174, I would go with the NEC... They have the same response time, but the colors on the NEC is better. If you read the reviews on Hitachi CML174, you'll find out that 16ms response time is great (no ghosting,) but they'll mention about the colors being not so great... Well, have fun choosing an LCD. LCDs are so much easier on your eyes. I wish I could afford one... :-(

Owning a Hitachi CML174, I beg to differ about the color "not being so great". It is great... and a lot of people who own this monitor feel that the color is quite fine.

Oh~ I never meant to say that colors are bad on the Hitachi. My bad. :) I just wanted to say there are some other 17" LCD monitors with 16ms response time with better colors. 400:1 contrast ratio on the Hitachi is in no way, bad.

You can also use the DVI and the analog dongle for your non-DVI monitor. By doing this, you're bypassing the FCC required Low Pass Filter in the DB15-OUT connection. The Low Pass Filter screens out some signal in the lower range. This gives you a slightly stronger signal to your monitor, displaying images a little better. It works for my GF4Ti4400 & Sceptre LCD monitor.
