Need a gaming Headset!

My Plantronics Audio .90 headset just died and I am looking for a new one. What I didn?t like about this head set was the quality was crap. I want something that has good sound quality similar to a normal headphones but still allows me to use a microphone. If this is not possible I have been looking at a few Sennheiser headphones that have great sound quality and only cost 20-30 bucks.

What I am looking for:
Headset/Headphones that have quality sound
Something that I can use for gaming (a microphone would be nice)
Price: Something that doesn?t cost too much (rebates and such are nice)

Someday, someone is going to market a complete gaming helmet - that would include surround sound and high res video imagery (360 degree). Sort of the ultimate gaming virtual reality.

My first gaming headset, MS Gamevoice (Plantronics made), lasted me 5 years. I then bought an identical one a couple months back when they finally died, this one has an extended 3 year warrenty. I'll be suprised if I'll ever have to use that warrenty.

If anything, I'm more disappointed with the logitech one I was provided with in my GW Collectors Edition box. I had the mic sitting almost in my mouth, max input set everywhere, mute switch off on the headset control and people still couldn't hear me. I plugged my plantronics one back in, everyone could hear me fine. I've since then given the logitech one to my sister so she can play GW with me and not have to use our speakers.

I have an creative audigy in my computer and I heard a lot of buzzing while I played games or listened to music. I was able to fix that with a little playing around. I compared my headset to some cheap sony earphones and I found that my plantronics headset was inferior.

After a few months of use I wasnt able to hear in left earphone, I returned it got another one and it had the same problems.

audio 90's arent crap u must of had bad sound card i have dsp-500's and they own.

The dsp-500's are a completely different headset that uses USB, these are made for people who don?t have sound cards..
Also I have heard from people the quality isn?t that great and it?s not worth the price.

Sennheiser PC-150s are easily the best reasonably priced headset out there.

Use search & you will see a ton of threads where over 50% of the recommendations are for the PC-150s.

BTW, your Audio 90s are utter crap for sound quality compared to the Sennheisers (i have used both).
You'll be pleasantly surprised by the quality of sound with the PC-150s.

Another  for the Sennheiser PC-150s. You can wear them for hours and they feel like nothing. Sound quality is good and the mic is excellent.

Plantronics is utter crap, my audio .90s died after about a year ( I had lost the warranty) but I figured hey, no problem, I wasn't to disapointed in the headset, so I went and got a pair of DSP 500's, and guess what, a year later they died on me too, in the exact same way (the right earphone on both set's mysteriously died while the left kept working, both were kept in pristine condition) so now I've had my PC-150's for about a year and I love them, best headset ever!

Senn HD280s for about $85 or Grado SR-60s for $70. Grado SR-60's are commonly used among gamers. I recomend the Grado, jsut so you can hear hte phone ring, somopene talking to you, etc.

Almost sounds like you need ear buds though.

Thanks for the input it seems like the senn pc150 is the way to go! Though on the website i did see pc155s and 160s that looked interesting no idea where to find them though.

The PC 155's are in a totally different league price wise. They are in the $100 range and are USB with a built-in sound card. The PC 160's are in the $70 range and just a bit better.

Go ahead with the PC 150's for around $45. You'll be happy with them.

Do you know what the model number is of the Plantronics headset that came with the gamevoice? I dug mine up for BF2 and sure enough it says Plantronics on the side. I want to match it up with the current Plantronics Lineup.

Also, do you have the drivers for the Game Voice? I cannot find them anywhere 🙁

I remember it resembled the Audio 12 or something when Plantronics still had it on their website....but I threw mine out years ago I can't check for you :/

Also it appears Microsoft had given up on Gamevoice support (www.gamevoice.com) is gone even though on their site the support expiration date is 2006.

hey I got a question about headsets.. is the sound quality better on headsets if you plug it directly into your sound card (assuming you got a good card like Audigy2) or is it better if you plug it into like .. another port .. whatever another port would be. or would it make no difference.

DSP-500s aren't necessarily made for people who don't have sound cards. I have sound cards on all my systems but still use DSP-500s. Its for people who want consistent sound when going LANning or whatever the case. I used to play Counter-Strike competitively and I needed a consistent sound when going to LAN centers or friends' houses to play tournaments or matches.

Anyways, DSP-500s are really nice headphones but I don't know if I could pay the price attached to it. I only use them because Plantronics sponsored my team and gave them to us for free.

That headset is the Audio 60. It's still available at Amazon.com and other sites. I've had a set for several years that has served me well. I like the lightweight design, and the audio quality is quite good. The only thing I've had to replace is the ear cushions. YMMV.
