Need a faster AGP card.

I consider myself a videocard expert but I do have one question: I would like to upgrade my Sapphire 256MB Radeon X800XT PE and I was thinking of getting a GeForce FX 5200 and then my games would fly. What do you think?

Just make sure you use DCpro and install the latest Nvidia drivers when you make the switch. If it works out as well as you're planning you might want to pick up another and go SLI

You are going backward there.. Fx 5200 is slower then the X800XT. Fastest AGP Solution is the 7800GS, I suggest you should upgrade to PCI-E.

the FX5200 isn't much better than a GF4MX or say a radeon 9000.

you might be thinking of the 7800GS which is a pretty fast card, but not worth the high cost if you only have an AXP 2600+ going of your sig.

you might want to upgrade the CPU and mobo to a C2D or A64 based setup you will be surprised the jump in performance you will get.

I went from a AXP 3200+(2.33ghz, 166fsb model) to a A64 3000+@2.87GHz and kept my Asus 6800GT, I had a huge jump in frame rates.

Thanks for making my day a happy one! I really needed some humour today as my life is a living hell at the moment. I'm going with the AMD Athlon X2 4800+ and a GeForce 7900 GTX or a Radeon X1950XT.
