ok, im tired of my tornado fans that are 55db even tho they move about 85cfm. i need something quite that can move a good amount of air that can keep my athlon running under 60C. the tornados keep it at 62 with the speed turned down to reduce noise, but i need somethign quite. what fan should i get for my SLK800? also, will 120mm work on it?

also, is the compound that comes with the thermalright good enough or will i be better off going ahead and ordering some artic silver?

I use a 92mm Panaflo H1A [56.8CFM @ 35.5dBA] on my SLK947-U and its great
Don't know if it fits your heatsink though

I'm using this YS-tech 80mm variable speed fan on mine and couldn't be happier with it. When it's turned down below half speed (low load conditions) it is inaudible. If I need the extra cooling for gaming I bump it up a tad and it's still quiet and cools sufficently. I never have to turn it up near full speed. Running a 1700+ @ 2200.

any fan will do. i don't know why you need a tornado to keep an athlon cool. i have an slk800 with zalman 92mm(overhang is a tad much) low rpm fan. 1800@2.4ghz 1.85v and only 48c load, 39-40 idle. tornados are for going nutz at 1.95v and higher. 120mm would only work if you could rig an 80-120mm adaptor together in a way that would work with the mounting clips. possible if u take an old 80mm fan, cut out the blades etc and use the frame as the mount for the rest. would be pretty tall.

I use a cheapy 80mm that puts out 35cfm at 30db and It rarely reaches 45-46 full load, it is currently at stock voltage though. When I had the 2500+ oced to 2.5ghz with 1.85 volts i had a smart case fan 2 on it running at about 3/4 full speed and it kept it under 50 full load.

what thickness? 38? 25?

I know an 80x38 is the largest fan the mounting brakets they provide will fit so i would say that only a 90x25 would fit with their mounting brackets.

The compound that comes with the heatsink is good enough, but you probably want Arctic Silver for the best performance.
