I set up E-smith server from March networks (free download) and had my Pentium level machine not only providing IP to my home network, but securing it as well!!!

HERE IS A LINK.

They give you a load of stuff about downloading/burning to CD, but I had no problem whatsoever!

Give it a try, bring that old PC back to life and help yourself out in the process.

Good luck,

i've heard of e-smith, but never heard of this .. how does this compare to LRP/Coyote, or FreeSCO ? ..

LRP, tried but could never seem to get it working in the past, (gave up...) Old 486 w/ ISA nic's i don't think they were supported...

FreeSCO/never tried.

The cool thing about this is that it can also be a file server, web server, email server... whatever you want it to be! I am setting up shares as a file server now! this is very cool.

me likey!!!

neuralfx:

A full server/gateway install takes 380 MB. I was hoping to get it on a super floppy, but not today...

Hope that helps.
