Need a DVD-RW drive...

Recently, my old LiteOn DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive failed, and I'm in the market for a new optical drive. I feel behind the times, as I've never purchased a DVD RW drive. However, I would like to, now that I need a new drive anyways. Does anyone have any suggestions around the $30 mark? I don't need anything extremely fancy.

Also, could someone explain the various DVD types, like DVD+R, DVD-R, dual layer, etc.?

Thanks

Get that Samsung. SATA, solid and quiet. That's all you need to know. Newegg also has a page where they explain the various types (look under product tour or something).

Yes, if you have a SATA slot available, use it. PATA is almost dead.
