Need a computer and spec, ect

I want a computer that is good for gaming. Like sor Quake and other Quake based engine games such as Soldiers Of Fortune 😀This game rocks I am currrently on a computer that is used for basic stuff, internet, word proccesing, ect ect...

I heard its alot cheaper to build your own computer than to goto a retail store and buy a already manufactured PC.

My Question is, what is the best:
  1. Harddrive - 40 gig Preferable
Sound Card - dont matter which
    Proccessor i.e. P4, Atholon, ect
Video Card - Pick a good graphhix card
Room for lots of upgrades 🙂

If you can, try to include a price for each item, and i already want 128 RAM PC133 😀 Dont go crazy with a $3000 system hehehe, I still dream about that..what a 5 GHz would do with 3 gigs of RAM...:Q

Thx in advance 😉

for HD i heard the 60GXP's are really good, for sound if u can get the money get a santa cruz or game theatre XP, processor: if your broke get a duron, if u got a little bit more money get a tbird, for video card the best card for the price seems to be the gf 2 pro 64mb which is about $145 at newegg. the major thing u need to look for in having room to upgrade is the motherboard. if your using pc133 like u said get the KT7a

i found a place to calculate my total and stuff, see if this is ok or if it is scamming me:

CPU: AMD Thunderbird Athlon 1400MHz Socket-A CPU (266MHz FSB) - $210
CPU Cooler: Taisol CGK760092 Cooler for Socket-A - $38
Motherboard: MSI K7T Turbo-R KT-133A - $110
Memory: Micron PC133 256MB CAS3 - 2 DIMMS - $80
Hard Drive 1: IBM Deskstar 60GXP 60GB - $210
Hard Drive Cooler 1: CoolerMaster 4002 CoolDrive Hard Disk Cooler-$30
Floppy Drive: Mitsumi 1.44MB Floppy Drive - $20
CD-ROM Drive: NEC 40X SCSI CD-ROM - $70
DVD Drive: Pioneer 16X IDE DVD Slot Loading 40X CD - $80
CD-RW Drive: Toshiba 4x4x4x24 EIDE CD-RW/DVD-ROM - $170
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 32MB - $60
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster PCI 128 - $30
Speakers: Labtec 2422 - $70
Keyboard: Microsoft Natural Elite Keyboard - $30
Mouse: 3 Button Silver Optical Mouse - $25
Monitor: Future Power 17 - $145
Case: Addtronics 7896A Full-Tower ATX Case - $178
Power Supply: Enermax 430W ATX Power Supply - $90
Operating System: Windows 98 Second Edition - $90
Warranty: Lifetime Phone & Email Support - 3 Years Labor - 3 Years Parts w/ CD - $230
Assembly: Assembly, Benchmarks, 48 Hour Burn-in, and Drivers - $175

this would all run me into about $2100, which is pretty damn expensive! But change some stuff that you feel isnt neccesery for Gaming and Graphics and programs, ect..and give me the price 🙂 thx

well you dont need so many cd drives. you would be fine with just the dvd/burner combo. you could ditch the pioneer dvd and the nec cd-rom, especially since the nec is scsi and you didnt mention a scsi adapter.

<edit> you should also be able to find cheaper memory than 256mb for 80. crucial is less than 60 for 256mb.

thats a expensive system I configured a really nice EPOX 8K7A with 512 mb of ram, and a TB 1.4 GHZ for $1,200 with shipping and its a very good Computer.

This is what I would buy if I were to build a new system on PC133 and had ~$2000

====www.newegg.com====(Prices include shipping)====
AMD Athlon 1.33GHz 266Mhz FSB $183
Iwill KK266 KT133A $112

Buy Keyboard and Mouse locally BB, CompUSA, etc...

you're spending more cash on your case then your monitor... Unless you plan on looking at your case instead of your screen, get a good monitor. For the case, go for an Antec SX1030. Just as good as the one you mentioned and comes with a good 300W power supply. You really don't need 430Watts. Also, please get a 19inch monitor, even if you have to cut in the CPU department. Also a better video card than an MX would do you good for games.

Iwill kk266-R
Crucial 256mb c3 pc133

17" Envision en-780 flat screen monitor

would you believe that this system barely cost me anything? i mean it was
487 at newegg
60 at crucial
95 at staples
30 at inflowdirect
------------------
a whopping total of 672!!
oh, dont forget to add the $10 altec speaker deal from staples too!
not too bad for a nice fast system.
you coul also always add a few more bucks if you wanted a faster cpu more ram cdrw, etc...but its not a bad start.
