NEED A CHEAP QUIET FAN FOR XP 1700+

Yep, here is your best bang for buck: SVC GC68
VERY quiet and very good cooling on my XP1700 running at XP1800 speeds on a k7s5a. 41c under full Load (crunching SETi for TA). Will cost you less then $ 18 shipped. TRUST me, this is all you will need even if you are moderately Oc'ing. (yes I also own an Alpha 8045 for my main rig, and the SVC is cooling almost as good.).

Actually, dont even need to replace the fan. It is pretty quiet. I still have 3 or so unused L1A's and havent found the need to replace the one on the SVC yet.

review What do you think about the criticism of the clip on this cooler? My tb900 came preinstalled on my board (abit kt7 raid) so I have yet to mess with this clip business. I really wish I could find the perfect heatsink and for cheap of course.

in regards to the clip on this heat sink, i don't think it's really an especially bad point, as it's the same as almost any heat sink out there right now. while a better clip would basically make no negatives points for the gc68, as long as you're careful and make sure the screwdriver doesn't slip while ur installing the clip, it shouldn't be a problem at all IMHO.

Lordbob99 hit it on the head, the GC-68 is awesome except for the clip. Just get a small screwdriver, and put duct tape around the edges of it to protect if it slips by mistake. It's really not that hard to install once you get used to it.

Bonger78: As far as i know there is no board that does not accept the GC-68. Any board that fits the alpha or any board that has the mounting hole should be fine. Like i said, i've NEVER had a problem nor have my customers. I don't think there is a board that will have a problem. If it does, just return it. =)

Its a great heatsink dont get me wrong (I did the review) but for any review I try and be as critical as possible. Its not that big of a deal and the performance of the cooler far outweighs the poor clip. If you need a quiet cheap good HSF get this one for sure

I just ordered one. So once I get it in and running with a couple of different fans I will post/repost the info. I have been looking for something like this with the 60mm base but 80mm top.😀

Try going to www.newegg.com and look at their enermax fans. Usually quiet means less air.
They sell some adjustable 8CM fans (1000 rpm - 3000 rpm) that are pretty nice. Enermax also makes adjustable 2 fan power supplies.
