What is a good cheap or shareware program for editing photos. I need to optimize them for the web so they are not real large. They would go on a website. Thanks!!!

There are many. Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 is excellent. Jasc's PhotoAlbum 4 is excellent. I also iuse an old Legacy program, HiJaak Pro 5.1, and it does a perfect job of reducing photos - use pixels. 640x480 usually results in < 50K files which is great for web ot email.

If you just want to resize and save for web use, try IrfanView. It doesn't let you do any actual drawing, but you can adjust colors and optimize for web.

I vote for IrfanView its small, fast, opens just about anything, and crops / resizes /resamples faster than any other prog.

Does GIMP support saving as .gif? Last I heard, saving as gif files required some sort of license.

yes it just doesnt come with the compression algorithm. you just have to DL it seperetly

all of these suggestions will work fine

the XP resizer power toy is the easiest tho. just highlight and resize.

PSE and Gimp are the best programs suggested IMHO

Photoshop full get the job done also

Unisys holds the LZW patent, but it has expired in the U.S. and most other patents will run out in the next 8 months or so.
