Currently have Sero sprint 50 bux.. but the signal is terrible by my house and in class.. there is no 4g here only 3g. Verizon seems to work best and fast.

Straight talk be cool or cricket but dont know about the throttle speed on cricket after the 2gb is up or what phones i can use for the straight talk network.. Samsung g2 be nice or somthing similar. (cant afford iphone 5's or 4 really) so anything near 200 be fine with fast data 3+Gb about,,,

sprint 3g's been sucking ever since the iphone came. supposedly Network Vision (3G tower upgrade/replacement + 4G LTE roll out) will fix that, but it's not rolling out in my area until mid 2013...

Go to www.straighttalksim.com

Order an AT&T-compatible microSIM for $15

Look on Craigslist/eBay/etc. for an AT&T-compatible smartphone (iPhone 4, Galaxy S2, etc.)

Insert your Straight Talk microSIM in your AT&T-compatible smartphone, and change the APN settings to Straight Talk's network.

Go to www.straighttalk.com and order the $45/month unlimited everything plan to activate your line.

Does straighttalk give you truly unlimted data or does it cap 3g after certain usage?

Never hit the cap, so I don't know. I don't use more than 2GB/month, and people on HowardForum are saying that staying under 2GB/month is safe.

If you need more data than that on a budget, the only other player besides Sprint is T-Mobile.

I sold my GNex to a guy this weekend and he was on Straight Talk, he says he averages between 5-7GB a month and hasn't had a problem. He was using a TMo ST SIM though. Not sure if possibly ST has different agreements with AT&T and Tmobile.

They are MUCH more strict with ATT. Likely that ATT has much higher data costs for them.

There's also the T-Mobile plan. 100 minutes, unlimited text and "unlimited" data (throttle after 5GB) for $30/month.

Yeah, this is the option that's not mentioned much on here -- ST via T-Mo to avoid both throttling and the 2gb AT&T cap.
I have the Tmobile "unlimited" plan and after 2gb they kick my data plan down to 2g speeds.
They tell you that ahead of time, though... and you can pay more for a higher throttle threshold.

Wow all great news. Tmobile plan sounds awesome if ican get away with 100 mins.. is it mobile to mobile free or am i going to have to call people with skype if i make a call haha.. Straight talk going with any phone is also news to me as last i heard you had to buy a e71 nokia and activate it and switch to iphone.. So if i went Straight talk 45 plan i could buy tmobile phone and use tmobile data and towers or if i went att it would be att data and 2gb max about?

Yeah, Straight Talk cut out the Nokia crap and let you just buy SIMs. Straight Talk now offers the T-Mo SIM for their network and less cap worries or the AT&T one for their (bigger) network and a 2gb cap.

Has anyone recommending straight talk on at&t ever used it? I constantly lost connection to 3g and 4g, and when it did work it was a third of the speed of T-Mobile with the $30 plan. Not having to worry about minutes was nice, but paying more for slower inconsistent data was a deal breaker.

The data connection cutting out has been documented on HowardForum. Yes, it's annoying, and yes, the only way to fix it is to cycle your data connection (turning on/off Airplane mode). I hope there's a permanent fix soon.

As for the slower connection, it could be a result of your APN settings (leave the proxy server field blank and your speeds will go up). Or it could just be AT&T's network speed in your particular area. I just ran a speed test right now and got 3MB/s down. T-Mobile might be faster, but I have no first-hand experience with them.

Yea, the data speed comes down to the difference between AT&T and Tmobile. AT&T offers coverage everywhere, with 3Mb/1Mb speeds, while Tmobile offers coverage on Metropolitan areas and along major roads with speeds averaging 7Mb/1.5Mb.
