Interesting reading. I never knew playing Quake was such an exercise in high school level arithmetic. ;)

So essentially, the Quake physics engine is a pile of horse crap that one has to learn how to take advantage of?

"This is a sparring program, similar to the programmed reality of the Matrix. It has the same basic rules, rules like gravity. What you must learn is that these rules are no different than the rules of a computer system. Some of them can be bent. Others can be broken. Understand? Then hit me...if you can."

Why are you playing Quake III while you are at work? What company do you work for? Just so I know not to go there....

Wow, lotta judgmental pricks around here. Do you ever talk to co-workers about something not work related? Take a break? Drink a beverage? Make a personal phone call?

Once or twice a day, me and all the other programmers play a 15 minute game of Quake. That's pretty standard at a lot of companies I know of. What the fsck is your problem?

Please help! I have a reputation to uphold! ;)

Does anyone else find playing Q3 while at work unusual ???? I noticed there are some good video card suggestions in previous replies, but no one else questioned gaming while at work.

I need to find a new job.....

BoberFett: Good luck with your reputation!

It's not playing games at work. It's a team building exercise. ;)

We usually play a couple quick games to 50 frags every day. If you had my job, you'd understand the need to relieve some stress by blowing the crap out your co-workers. :)

And I have no idea what kind of jumps you guys are talking about.

We usually have a few rounds of something at lunchtime, definitely an enjoyable activity that doesn't affect normal work...

It was Halo on the Xbox we had going for a while, it's great the Xbox can just plug into a standard office network, we usually had 2-3 Xboxes going each day. Unfortunately debug Xboxes don't play retail games so we each had to drag a retail Xbox in, eventually we couldn't be bothered and moved onto something else.

At the moment we're trying to get games of that new cutting edge First Person Shooter game going, you may have heard of it, it's called Counter Strike. I had to laugh reading this thread about how many hundred FPS you should be aiming for, I can't even get CS running on my machine! It's a powerful P2 266 with 64 MB RAM and a Matrox Millenium 4MB :D

Sadly since most of the work is on consoles at the moment, we don't need get given decent PCs :(

lol, we i would not call it crap by any means, such things in the game make it rather eloquently like life itself in my opinion. ;)
