4650 should handle that fine. Hell, disable GPU encoding and the CPU should handle it no problem.

Something is wrong. It should even handle 2560x1440 Video files. (there are some to play with if you look for them)

I've played 1080p Blu Rays and MKV's perfectly fine in the past using Onboard 4250 on a laptop... using MPC-HC

do you think an E8400 with a GT630 could play 1080P MKV files without dropping frames?
i might turn my computer into an HTPC after i upgrade.

So long as you don't do any shader intensive post processing, I think you'll be fine...

I have a GT640 in my HTPC. I thought the 6570 would work better for you since you already have AMD.
But either one should work fine.

Thanks. I don't mind switching camps. Plus Anand's review swayed my opinion to the GT640. The 4650 would've been $30 AR and I'm not too keen on being on the lowest end, especially at my resolution. Cheapest 6570 is $40 AR and the GT640 is $60 AR.

My current gpu probably can. But the stutter comes when things get a little hectic with numerous chrome tabs (multiple video sites) and multiple accounts are open now that I think about it. And my current setup won't do 3d movies easily. Plus if I'm spending as much money, its only a few more dollars to get on the last gen hardware.
