Since I've got a week vacation, my English teacher wants me to read a book. But not just any book:

-Between 180 and 250 pages. 255 is okay, 270 is not.
-Written between 1950-now.
-Must be written by a writer born in the UK or the US.

Anyone know any GOOD books that fit this description? Thanks :).

EDIT: Sorry, has to be a novel.

i know of several good books although most are longer. my favorite is more like 450. Zen and The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance. try maybe Ender's Game? don't remember how many pages it is but it isn't long.

I don't mind reading longer books, but my teacher's against it. Beats me why.

I'm not the one making the demands here. I don't mind long books, but apparantly, the guy does.

Damn.
1984 would be a suggestion, but it's ~270 pages long and from 1949.

What stupid requirements :(

I think that MIGHT fit the bill. I'll ask him.

I got this DVD off eBay. It had a complete synopsis of top books.

I thought that I was getting the top 500 books in literature, until I played the disk.

I thought it would be great for book reports and the like, rather disappointing that it wasn't the full thing.

It covered many points of interests and since I read many of the books covered, I wish I had this disk back then. (Back in the Past).

The Rachel Papers or Dead Babies - Martin Amis (only if you are >18 years old though I think)
Catcher in the Rye - JD Salinger
Any of Magnus Mills' books
1984, Down & Out in Paris & London or my favourite Orwell novel: Keep the Aspidistra Flying

Those are what I can think of off the top of my head. If you need more suggestions I can try and rifle through my bookshelf later.

Cheers, KT

Edit: the other Orwell novels I listed may have been written too early, not sure. Sorry about that.

I looked at all the books I've read in the past year or so and not a single one is 250 or less so I don't know.

What about The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury? It's 184 pages long and was written in 1983... sounds good. :)

Depending on which edition/version you get, Flower for Algernon can fit into your length requirements.
