As someone who used to work for a Library, and a Bookstore... i weep for your father's organizational skills.

On the subject of your "Magical Sci-Fi world of tomorrow" thread, just think: All of that would probably fit in less than a square inch of a hard drive platter.

Me too. :( He has some method to his madness though, always knows what section something should be in. He organizes things by rough groups like American lit, Chinese, British lit, Biographies, Art books, Reference. etc... Nothing formal at all.

And some people wonder why I hate paper so much.
8.5x11" = 93.5in²
Seagate's got a drive that can do 625 gigabits per square inch.
So if that piece of paper has less than 7,304,687,500,000 characters on each side, it's wasting space.

That's just insane.

Individual atoms: Y u no hold moar data?

I had a buddy whose dad was a history prof at the University of Chicago. They had books coming out of their asses at the house. The basement was a full fledged library and they converted a bedroom or two for book storage.

Whenever I question the usefulness of the kindle pictures like that remind me why. Wait till they die/move and you have to box all those things up. My wife had like 10% of that sized stash in pharmacy text books and I swear it was over a literal ton of books that took up a pickup truck load.

I'd still rather have a paper book than the electronic version any day of the week, and I'm an Electrical Engineer!

Me too, but after a certain point you either need to clean house or start going digital to save on space. I cringe thinking about cleaning out some of my in-laws places. They literally have books overflowing into into two or three rooms. It's probably close to what the OP posted, except sprawled all over the place.
