My Asus P5E WS PRO died (will not POST), so i upgraded.
I am trying to use some of the pieces to make my daughter a budget system, to replace her socket 478 system.
I have:

Intel E5400 Duel Core 2.7 or Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33
Crucial Ballistix 2GB DDR2 1066 (PC2-8500) BL12864AA1065
GeForce 8400 GS PCI-e
Windows 7 Home Premium.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Jeff

Overclocking or not? Will you be using an ATX case or mATX? The Gigabyte and Asus G41 chipset mATX boards are really budget and work decently.

UD3R and UD3P are great boards, but probably overkill for a budget system. I recently found a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L under $50 in the FS/FT forum for the same purpose. Gigabyte and Asus P35 boards usually are a safe choice. Certainly nothing wrong with P45 and P43, just seems that used DDR2 versions are hard to find. If you have to get something right away, this should work fine:

Gigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L

Gigabyte G41

This was $47 shipped a few days ago. Really nice, loaded mATX.

Here is an excellent review. :)

 I'm Zap, and I approve of this message.

I was using it in my HTPC until last week. I swapped it out to use it in a build for my aunt. One thing that is interesting is the board will not wake out of S3 Sleep using a PS/2 keyboard (which is unfortunately what my aunt has). USB KB/mouse wakes it up nicely.

OOps, sorry.
I dont overclock (even though i seem to buy OC Boards)
I have full ATX cases.

My wifes system is:
Asus P5NE-SLI
E6550 2.33
4GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800
Thermalrock Eclipse ATX
500W Coolermaster
WinXP Pro 64bit

So if i do get a good board, i could pull hers and give it to my daughter with a e5400, and put one of these in my wifes. and get her some more memory...(or am i trading a pear for a pear)

Also, excuse my ignorance, but can i put the DDR2 1066 into these DDR 800 boards?
I couldnt get her P5NE board to boot with the 1066 memory.:oops:

Try this with the memory - boot into BIOS with the DDR2-800 memory in, change DDR voltage to 2.1v, save, shut down computer, replace DDR2-800 with DDR2-1066, and boot.
