You do understand that upgrading to a P4 will speed up the encoding process, but your CPU utilization will still be at 100% so you still won't be able to multitask easily, which you stated in your original post was a priority.

But with hyperthreading on my p4 i can encode with tmpgenc and play q3 at the same time...both run great and the encode times and frame rates are still good as well.

If you RAID the raptors on your motherboards SATA channels, then use your existing 80GB drive for other data, that would probably give you quite a bit of storage.
Unless you want to keep your existing system intact.

Yeah i'm gonna sell my old pc as it.What i was thing of it getting like a WD 120gb to store all my stuff on & then put a scsi lets say 18gb or 36gb to use for my encoding.

Probably a good idea. One suggestion for mass storage: Samsung's SV1604 is a great storage drive--160GB (a 5400rpm drive, though... but storage review shows it not being as slow as one would thing) for roughly $115 at Newegg (regular price). And they have a three-year warranty (as all Samsung's HDD do).

Go with something simple,
P4 2.6 800mhs fsb
512mb of ddr3200 or 1gb
865pe intel mb
2x 80gb wd hd's with 8mb cache and 7200rpm in raid 0
any video card
350 ps
and a quality case

that set-up will give yiou a healthy boost.

misc other stuff and shipping - total = $1220

Allright so I went a little over. This can be easily adjusted to $1000. Change the 9800 pro to a 9700 np.
Buy a cheaper case and your pretty much there.

You guys are nutsos spending $150 JUST for a case which hasnt even a PSU and then spend an additional $75 for a PSU....
This is for sure NOT the way to go if someone looks for a value/budget/good prize system whatsoever. Just waiting to see someone recommending him a bunch of neon lights and strobes in addition for $150 for inside the case - because they're so important 🙂

Nothing against Lian Li and Antec btw..but still...i guess money is an issue here (so would it for me 🙂

sheeeeschhh

Yeah $150 is alittle to much for me to pay for a case.Is there any other case out there that yous think i should look at ?

NDENT... I would check out the Evercase 4252. It can be had at Newegg in black or white for under $40 (with no PSU).... and it is one of the favorites of silent-pc enthusiasts (check out SilentPCReview.com).

As for a PSU, I would spend a decent chunk of change on a good one. Though, supposedly, Fortron is going to have a 400W version of their 120mm fan PSU (like the FSP300-60PN at Newegg).... and they usually are a GREAT value. The Antec TruPower series is good... as are PC Power & Cooling.

Personally, I bought an Antec 1080B with a 430W TruPower for around $100.
