Need a blazing fast pc & i got $1000 to spend

If this were a car, the mobo/CPU/memory would be the engine and tranny, but you need good tires and suspension to actually do anything with the power. Eh? 😉 Start a conversion, press Ctrl Alt Del on the keyboard, click Task Manager and go to the Performance tab to see the CPU graph.

Allright so I went a little over. This can be easily adjusted to $1000. Change the 9800 pro to a 9700 np.

Then I like this setup except I'd change out the Lian Li and 450W PSU for an Antec Plus1080AMG with the included TruePower 430 (as long as you don't mind having a door over your drive bays). Spend the savings on two 512Mb modules of XMS3500 or perhaps the TwinX 3700, which is specifically aimed at the latest Intel-based boards.
 
My response to the CPU being 100% is two posts above this one 🙂 Sounds like the CPU is maxed and you would benefit from a faster one. The P4C's are generally the best for that type of work, so you should probably switch over to an Intel platform and either retire your existing one to some other purpose or sell it to help pay for the new one.
 
Ok so now that we know that what i'm doing is taking up all of my cpu can somebody plz help me out on what parts should i buy & from where.I only got like 1 person giving me a idea on what to get.

Not a bad system as all i'll have to add is a moniter but i do got a question for you.

Are those raptors a better option then getting a scsi drive & a ide drive ?.I need at least 1 large drive.
 
You know, I've heard you can buy movies pre-recorded on DVDs so you don't have to encode them yourself. Some outfit... "Best Buy," does that sound right? They can even play in a Playstation2! :Q Could save you a lot of money to go that route, instead of building a $1000 system just to do this task. 😉 Just a thought 😀

Lol i convert home videos/weddings etc.That's the business i run here.Your right why waste so much time & $$$ for a movie when i can just rent it at blockbuster.

If you RAID the raptors on your motherboards SATA channels, then use your existing 80GB drive for other data, that would probably give you quite a bit of storage.
Unless you want to keep your existing system intact.

Yeah i'm gonna sell my old pc as it.What i was thing of it getting like a WD 120gb to store all my stuff on & then put a scsi lets say 18gb or 36gb to use for my encoding.
 
You do understand that upgrading to a P4 will speed up the encoding process, but your CPU utilization will still be at 100% so you still won't be able to multitask easily, which you stated in your original post was a priority.

Yes i was just thinking about that but still if i upgrade to the p4 shouldn't my job get done alot quicker ?

This would be a great reason to pursue the dual AMD setup. Does your encoding software support SMP (multiprocessing) ? If so, the dual setup would blow the P4c out the window

I'm not sure.I use ulead movie factory 2 at the moment & i'm about to try out that new dvd-lab.

Yeah but that AMD setup i listed is as much or maybe more then the P4 everybody is telling me to go with.I hear running dual cpu's with take up alot of power so i need some good cooling stuff & at least a 500w psu.
