My better half's only hobby is her work (she runs her own business), so buying gifts for her is a pain in the ass.

Any suggestions? btw, she hates gadgets

Custom jewelry, I did that for my gf last christmass. The results were great. Silver heart shaped earrings with that dirty/matt sort of texture.
 
i say a weekend getaway for the two of you at a luxe hotel in your area (or a bit away) complete with scattered rose petals to the bed, champage, romantic dinner..the works. also,get her some nice lingerie as well.
make the weekend really special... do things that she would love... go to an art museum, a theatrical production, get a couples massage... anything!

i did something similar for our 3 yr anniv. made her a birthday card from scratch (the outline of 3 roses cutout in the front with a 10 page picture collage of us on the inside along with some thoughful words), got 2 dozen cheap roses from the local supermarket and took out the petals from half of them, and got her a pink saphire and diamond pendant necklace.

after we checked into our hotel suite (in Atlantic city) I suggested we take a shower together before heading out to the casino floor and opted that she get the shower started. While she was busy doing that, i quickly laid a white sheet on the bed, spread out the rose petals, scattered the remaining 12 long stemmed roses around the bed, and left my card in the center of the bed leaning on the pillow along with the necklace box. then hopped in the shower with her.

she was in for quite a surprise when we got out of the shower. she was quite surprised I was able to do all that in the 2 mins she was warming up the shower.

needless to say, she loved it.

get her a season court side ticket to the Miami Heat. --> its a win/win situation, if she likes it, you'll get laid, if not, you have your very own season ticket to see the SHAQ.
