Need a better quality car windshield phone mount gooseneck

I bought this for $7 and was pleased.
Then the retaining "ears" jammed and don't work so well anymore.
I want to buy a replacement, but not a totally crappy one.
What's the next level up?

I frequently drive to California, and that is verboten there. So, I use a beanbag mount on the dash. It is also easily hidden when stopped so you are less of a thieves target.

I've had bad luck with all the windowscreen mounts. Best alternative I've found is this vent one:
