ok after 2 years my 80mm Tornado is starting to annoy me, it really is loud but it does keep things cool

abyway my HS can take up to a 92mm fan, so what would be a good quiter replacement for the tornado without sacrificing too much cooling power?

i have a 2400+m @ 2.5GHz and the tornado keeps it ~38C under Full load, Seti 24/7

Heat sink is a SLK-900a

i have a few 120mm fans but i dont think they will fit properly

yes with the team, i hit 10K WUS ,last week, never really thought id get there

anyway
the sanyo: Specifications: 92x92x32mm, 55.1 CFM @ 2900 RPM, 36 dBA, 3.72 watt, .31 amp, 12v DC, 3-pin connector

Panaflo: Specifications: 92x92x25mm, 56.8 CFM @ 2850 RPM, 35.0 dBA, 2.7w, 225 mA, 12v DC, 3 pin Molex connector

they are almost identicial but the sanyo is thicker why is that? and im sure itll fit cause the tornado does and its 38mm thick

and i would like to be able to run it off a 4-pin Molex if possiable

also how much hotter woudl the CPU be seeing as these fans push 55 CFM and not 80 CFM like the tornado

so anything lower then 45 is excellent

Unless you live in a volcano get the panaflow, it will give you plent of air flow.

About the Sanyo Denki it won't fit becaus the clip needs to fit into the screw holes in between the frame of the fan. That Sanyo Denki won't alow that if you look at the pic.

no the sanyo will fit, you just need to clip it on the top, its how i have my tornado on now, and it was how i attached my 60mm delta to my SK-6 back when i had that

I think ill get this

Nominal Speed(RPM): 1800/2300/2800 +/- 10%
Max Air Flow(CFM): 64.15
Noise(dBA): 28 - 34.3

@ 34dBA thats over 20 dB quiter then the tornado, a lil less then 1/2 the CFM but its still good, the 92mm Delta i was looking at is 71CFM @ 42 dBA

Panaflo High speed 92mm fan
Specifications: 92x92x25mm, 56.8 CFM @ 2850 RPM, 35.0 dBA

the Enermax is quieter and pushes more air

Take a look at this fan... 52.24CFM at 21 db... It's a 90mm (or 92mm depends on how you look at it) fan that pushes a lot of air at very low noise. I picked up a pair of them last week (one for a spare) and will be using one of them on my SLK-948U heatsink (when I install it). At only $8 a pop, it's hard to beat. Especially with the CFM and db numbers. Other fans can push more air, but they are a lot louder...

First thing you need to know about fans is never trust manufacturers specs. The dB(A) values are never (and I mean never) correct and the cfm values aren't very accurate either. For airflow, you should rather look at the rpm as they are genereally accurate and fan blade design doesn't differ enough to make a real airflow difference (but it can make a noise difference).
Get the Panaflo 92mm H1, it is more than enough cooling and I am sure that it's quieter than the Enermax.

ahh IC, i just took the tornado off full power and im running it off one of ther 7v FAN ONLY connectors from my power supply, Antec Truepower 430, is much quiter and shoudl be running about 1/2 speed so im guessing ~1/2 the CFM which would put it around 50-60 CFM which is what thoes 92mm fans do, ill see how this goes for temp and if it seems fine then a 92mm puching the same amout of air woudl be fine and prob a lil quiter however this is much better

is it actually really that quiet though? I am thinking of replacing my Vantec Stealth as it's not as quiet as I'd hoped, and does not push THAT much air.. would like something similar in noise, and pushing a bit more air.

No, that thermaltake is definately not 21db. The best makes of that fan used a panaflo underneath that paint. Sure the panaflo could be 21db, but not at that corresponding airflow.

OP: a 92mm enermax with variable resister will give you a great amount of flexibility for noise to cfm. you can make it medium noisy but good airflow, or you can make it quiet an less airflow easily.

Panaflo M1A is a great compromise for noise and airflow.

Im running an 1800+ at 2200mhz with 1.75V using an SLK 947U with 7V Panaflo M1A BX and my temps are around 48 idle and 53 load which is fine - no crashes = no problems in the end, plus the added benefit of low noise.

bgmicro.com carries an interestingly variable selection of fans at great prices - but you may have to do your own connector or cut and splice.
