Need 360 game buying advice...dealine tomorrow

Kabob

Lifer
So, I've got $20 in Amazon store credit that expires tomorrow. I called Amazon and asked if I pre-ordered a game if the credit would be applied towards said game and the rep said yes.

I've got it down to two:

1) Red Dead: Redemption - I don't know much about the game but it seems that people are giddy over it's release. I've looked at it a bit and it seems very impressive but I'm worried about the graphic nature of the content (profanity and nudity mostly).

5) XBL 1600 point card - I'll use 'em eventually guaranteed.

SO...here what I'm looking at:

1) Red Dead: Redemption - I don't know much about the game but it seems that people are giddy over it's release. I've looked at it a bit and it seems pretty neat but I still dunno if it'll be for me.

2) Lost Planet 2 - I actually haven't played the first game yet (should be en-route to my place today though). The second seems pretty interesting though. I like the giant scaled monsters and IIRC the multiplayer demo from the first game was alot of fun (I need to DL the MP demo for #2 tonight and give it a whirl...). My biggest reservation is that I heard they cut alot of content from the 360 version to squeeze it all onto one DVD and plan to release the cut stuff as DLC but I've not heard if they plan to charge or not.

3) Gears of War 2 GOTY - As much as I've sworn off GoW 2 (I bought it on release day and hated all the lag) lately I've been considering picking it up again to play the new maps and such (now that "hopefully" all the bugs are gone). My one gripe is that I don't think any of my friends play anymore.

4) Resident Evil 5 Gold - I really enjoyed RE5 but sold it quickly since...well...there wasn't alot to do. I'm not interested in the multiplayer but the co-op and new chapter might be worth a look (plus I never got to finish the game on the hardest difficulty...I think I was halfway through).

5) XBL 1600 point card - I'll use 'em eventually guaranteed.

6) Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 or GoW 3 - I know both of these are a good ways off but "technically" I could go ahead and pre-order 'em knowing good and well I'll buy them when they are released...

7) Give the $20 credit to purbeast.

Thoughts? Ideas? Other options?

i'd say option 7.

1) I've heard RDR is basically GTA but set as a Western and you get to hunt and kill animals for food. This is one of those games that I wish there was a demo for.

2) There hasn't been any word lately about DLC to make up for the missing content. Still looks like a huge improvement over the first Lost Planet.

3) They are still working on one more title update to fix all the bugs still in the game.

4) That's a tough one because I don't know how much the new episodes add to the game.

5) Definitely you will spend them

6) I'd wait for pre-order deals. With Amazon offering $20 credit for games like Halo: Reach and Super Mario Galaxy 2, you know they'll offer something for those two as well.

My top choices would be 1, 2, and 5.

There are also a bunch of games that are on sale and come with $10 credits:

Mass Effect 2 - 46.99
Splinter Cell Conviction - 49.99
Super Street Fighter IV - 36.99
Bioshock 2 - 35.99
Final Fantasy XIII - 46.99
Battlefield Bad Company 2 - 49.99
Modern Warfare 2 - 49.99
Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City - 32.99

Otherwise I'd vote for 1 or 5. RDR looks amazing but I'd like to see how it plays and if the framerate is acceptable. Also, from what I understand the extra episodes for RE5 are pretty short.

Ya know, I would consider it but it's locked to my account.

Hrm...I went and checked a vid of LP2 and RDR a minute ago (lunch break, I work next to the library)...LP2 looked pretty slick but RDR looked freaking incredible.

My biggest gripe by far with it was the rating. Something along the line of:

M
Nudity
Explicit Sexual Content
Strong Language
Graphic Violence
etc.

First time digital boobies pop up on screen my wife will flip. She already thinks that VGs are evil. I've no problem with the violence, the nudity and language may be an issue. What should I have expected with a Rockstar title though...wish I knew if there would be a filter but I get the idea there won't be.

I know what you mean about waiting for a pre-order but Amazon's deal is that if the price drops or any promotions are introduced you get that price/promotions. If the price dropped to $55 and they offered $20 credit it'd still be applied.

Most of those I either own or don't plan on buying.

Starting to lean towards RDR. I downloaded the multiplayer demo for LP2 and it was ok...a little too hectic for me methinks.

I'm gonna say to NOT do option #3, GoW GOTY. A couple of friends still play it, but only because it's basically their routine at this point. From what I understand, the game is riddled with grievers and glitchers.

Option #5 sounds like your best bet or throwing it down on a Reach reservation (if you're a Halo guy, that is).

I've never liked Halo. The points are still the cheapest option...it's really down to that or RDR at this point. The more I see of RDR the more amazing it looks (I mean come on!) but I've still got my reservations simply because of the...graphicness of the content.

I believe you could always turn down the volume to censor the language, unless your wife sits and watches you play. As for any nudity, I doubt there is any active filters for that.

Hehe, good point! Although the loss of...something else would be worse D:

From ESRB on RDR
ESRB said:
This is an "open-world" action-adventure game in which players assume the role of John Marston, a reformed criminal on a mission to capture the remnants of his old outlaw gang. Players roam Wild West environments and perform various missions for criminal figures and law enforcement: destroying bridges, helping individuals in distress, delivering packages of drugs (e.g., opium), capturing outlaws, and eliminating rival figures. Players use shotguns, pistols, and rifles to kill enemies in realistic gun battles. Players can engage in melee-style hand-to-hand combat and trigger slow-motion effects by shooting enemies at close-range or by targeted shooting (i.e., aiming for body parts). Blood often spurts out of characters when shot; head shots and knife attacks result in much larger sprays. In one sequence, a bloodied and mutilated corpse can be seen hanging from the rafters of a barn. Players have the ability to shoot pedestrians in the game; however, a "Wanted Level"-penalty system discourages these acts by triggering a law enforcement response. The game contains a scene in which two characters have sex on a table; there is a brief instance of female nudity. One sequence depicts a man injecting himself with a syringe filled with cocaine. Language such as "f**k," "c*nt," and 'sh*t" can be heard in the dialogue.

If there's only one instance in the game with the nudity I'll be fine (heck, I played through Conan...although the graphics were alot worse and you never really focus in on said captured damsels in distress) although that's not quite what it says.

Now on to the profanity, the way that's written sound like it really focuses in on the cussing when the guy is injecting himself with heroine although I get the feeling I'm reading it wrong (it is Rockstar after all).

I emailed ESRB asking more detailed questions although I doubt I'll hear from them by the end of the day.

I'm thinking I'll give it a whirl and hope for the best. With the $20 Amazon credit and $10 credit for pre-ordering the game from them if I can't handle it I should be able to sell it at minimal loss.

*edit* It's done:
