I have the following system....

Athlon XP 2600+
Abit NF7-S v2.0
FX5900 128MB
1GB Kingston PC3200
Antec 350W PS

What would be the best thing I could do to my system for a lousy $100? (Trust me, I wish I had more to spend for myself this time of the year.)

Thanks guys!

Buy a used 6800gt in the "for sale ,trade" section.

Basically you could either upgrade your cpu/mb or gpu, but not both. With either upgrade, you'll find the other component to be a bottleneck. You can get a s939 A64 mb/cpu for around $100, especially if you look for a used processor. That's the route I would personally go for. AGP is the biggest problem since you're pretty much locked in unless you can afford both upgrades. If you can push your budget up to $110-120 you can find a cheap A64 3000+ and pick up one of these. Then you could keep using your FX5200 and upgrade to a PCI-E card when you get more funds.

If he did that, he might need to buy a new power supply also.

His power supply is fine.
Overclock cpu and a used 6800gt and his framerates should double for 100.00$ or buy new core duo system and break the bank are his only good options.

I've seen 7600GT's in the forums for $100 and they beat out 6800GT and don't require 6pin power connector/adapter. So 7600GT all the way.

Was the 7600GT a PCI-e, because from my understanding, the AGP version of the 7600's run for more than that.

Actually I got his specs confused with another thread I was looking at. I don't think they make a 7600GT in AGP flavor.

They do, but its a lot more expensive & tough to find new, nevermind used.

Yeah, I did my research on one a while ago for a friend, they were way too expensive. If you really want to game on a budget and don't want to change your computer, consider an Xbox 360 OP, just a suggestion, some people don't like console gaming, I only like it for my racing games.
