I need to upgrade a clients server for the short term 6-12 months until we buy all new equipment.

He has a compaq p3 733mhz server with only 4gig of scsi HD. If I add an external Firewire 300 gig HD could the 4 people who share the server also use the external HD but be efficient, and stable to have it shared?

Yes they could but I would worry about some what happens if that one drive dies in the next 6-12 months? Do they do backups? Could you get 2 drives and mirror?

A fellow ATer (radioouman) has a really nice SCSI kit for sale (LSI U160 PCI host adapter, Seagate 74GB HD (barely used - probably even has some warranty left), cable w/ terminator and SCA adapter. He was asking only $175. and he'd probably dicker a bit. I'd have the drive now myself if I could shake loose some money (Christmas time don't you know). If 74GB is enough space for them, you couln't beat this gear with a stick. I can vouch for the adapter/cable/terminator (it is standard equipment on some HP/Compaq servers/workstations) as I sold that to him - it all looked and worked like new...
. It wouldn't be out of place in the new machine they are contemplating if the space is sufficient. Most smaller businesses don't require huge on-line storage.
