Probably gnats? Get the drains clogged on purpose then pour kerosene down them then light them on fire. No way such a plan could fail.

I once had them and the landlords put a bunch of tape over the drain and they stopped coming out (obviously). They had suggested putting vinegar down the drain and putting some tape over the drain (not all of the way) so the flies get stuck to the tape. It didn't work but I didn't realize that they were in the drain that looked like it was taped up. I'm not sure if it will actually work or not. I also think I saw some type of drain cleaner that is supposed to get rid of them. Good luck. Those things are nasty looking!

Has anyone asked yet,
what the fuck is a drain fly?

edit: okay, I googled it & looked at pictures as well as a couple of sites. No, I don't have a problem with drain flies. Most of the sites gave the same cure: keep your drains clean. Seems pretty simple to me. I hate slow draining drains, and manage not to get a shitload of hair and other organic waste coating the insides of my drain pipes.

It sounds like the setup to a joke, but I can't think of the punchline :^D

Hey Doc. Go back to the truck, and get the busway. I forgot to bring it...

If it's the kitchen sink, throw ice in the disposal to get a slush cleaning it, and immediately wash all dishes.
Get some fly paper to hang near where they are, bleach the drains regularly.

That worked for me.

Though I also had an untested hypothesis involving a vacuum cleaner and another involving a compressed air hose, a modified milk jug, and an aerosol bug bomb

Never seen them in my life. Where do you live? Keep your windows shut or consider getting screens.

Genius! Problem solved.

Drain screens (water can still go down, but the flies can't come back up):

I had them in an apartment once. I think I poured some bleach in the drain, then stuck the plug in and kept it plugged for about a week.

It was a pain doing my dishes in the bathtub, but after that I learned to keep the sink a little cleaner;)

Any cooking oil will work by preventing the larva from growing into adult flies. It floats on the water in the drain trap, just like the sewer fly eggs.

Bleach, vinegar, etc. are miscible.

Had fruit flies (twit flies, not drain flies) in an apartment a couple times. Cleaned the sink and hung fly paper for a week. Got a LOT with the fly paper, but that was before I had cats. Cats are incompatible with fly paper.

Still occasionally see them around. Usually turns out I dropped something behind the stove or something.

Thank God OP doesn't post anymore, that I've seen anyway. Now if only about 3 or 4 others could follow that glorious path...

Hello, I found this topic with Google, however it looks it is a bit old. Small flies appeared in my bathroom, near my shower. And I also found small, black worms. I used Domestos to kill them and then I clean the whole shower. After 3-4 days the small worms were there again.

In this article I saw an image and I have exactly the same black worms. Do you know any better treatment than bleach or similar methods. It is very unconvenient to have these small animals in my bathroom, I often have guests and I don't want to show black worms to them.
