Package deals are also available so take your pick.
This pick makes it one sweet deal. There is no difference features wise between the 3540A vs 3550a that I can find except lead-free parts used in the new drive if you care to know.
The 3550A will unseat the noisy Sammy currently in my system. Just picked one up tonight.

LOL! I've bought about 5 of these drives over the last couple of months. 😀

Great upgrades for friends & family.

This is an excellent drive & a great price!

edit: Oooops. I've bought the 3540A not the 3550A.

Not even one single review at The Egg so it must be new to me. With the freebee picked, I practically paid $26 for the drive.

Here's another link comparing both 3540A & 3550A.

I just ordered one today to replace my 3500A which started acting a little flaky. A firmware hack is being developed to upgrade the driver to a 4550A, the ability to burn dvd-ram. Looks promising

Looks good to people like me who uses DVD burner for burn only and DVD-ROM for reading. Now, I have to deciede what I should do with ND-3500A I'm currently playing with!

Can someone tell me which NEC drive is the best out there right now? I saw there is a NEC 4550 out there. Can someone tell me the difference? Thanks

I've got 4 of these now. Any one of these drives are a winner. Not saying they are better than the Benq, just that you can't go wrong with one of these. Paid $37.99 shipped last week for a 3540. I'm still remembering 2 yrs ago when my buddy was all excited about getting a Sony burner on Christmas sale for $150. And that was 2X. lol We're spoiled now.

Ton of NEC drive info you can find there. I have had my beloved ND-3520a for almost a year now and it hasn't failed me. The 3550a will serve as a 2nd burner in my rig:thumbsup:

Nope. I forget exactly what ATAPI means, but its basically IDE's term for CD/DVD drives, or something along those lines.

Good deal on a good drive.

I've used these with Windows and Linux and have not had any problems. They're fast, resaonably quiet, reliable, and reasonably priced.

Thanks for that link. I just got one off ebay in a usb external case. i'm putting it into my XPC and a hard drive into the case. I didn't get any software with the unit but expect that XP Pro will take care off supplying a driver for it.

My main question now is - is there any particular application software program that works best with it?

I got in on this deal last night, but the the freebie was 25 DVD-R's, not the 5 pack mixture they are offering now. I would rather have the 5 pack. Oh well, I come out ahead anyway. Good find.
