I recently bought an NEC Multisynce P1150 21" for $160, a very excellent deal since it was over $1000 when it was being manufactured. I am mostly happy with the monitor except for that I would like slightly better IQ. The picture often seems to be too light of color even if I turn brightness and contrast down. I have the chance to buy a Dell Sony Trinitron 1600HS for $200 seen here and my dad will take mine. My question is, would it be worth the extra $50 for the Sony? Has anyone used this monitor and can comment if it is good? Thanks guys

Go for the Sony, its hard to beat their tubes on refresh rates unless we are talking about EIZO, which is much more expensive. Though its a "Dell" monitor, its a Sony tube and thats what matters. I've seen several Dell monitors in stores, the only difference to me was the plastic around the tube, the clarity was great.

The refresh rates are the same. I am just wondering how the difference in picture quailty is.

I have the dell monitor your looking at. I bought it after the 21" Radius monitor I have was too much for me to look at. It sounds like we are in the same exact boat as far as reasoning behind buying the dell monitor. My radius looks too bright and a little washed out, and when I turn the brightness down, it still looks pretty bad, and adjusting the gamma, still looks pretty undesireable. I bought my dell 21" from ubid in January. It's picture is far superior to the radius I have. Only one thing, the dell is going back to ubid this week because the picture is now flickering. My friend bought the same one from ubid also, and his picture looks like there is a shadow problem on the entire screen and he is sending his back also. So yes the dell looks much better, but after this incident, which "I" have to pay for shipping the monitor back, I'm not even going to bother with so called "refurbs" anymore, just not worth the hassle. And one last thing to mention, mine lasted almost 3 months before it went out, the one I saw from your link said 30days I think. Just trying to save you from some possible headaches. There seems to be alot of those dell 21" monitors floating around, probably from govt. contracts because I heard that most of the military has upgraded to flat panels. Good luck in whatever you decide!

Just got a Dell P1110 off-lease refurb (from Dell FS) for CDN400 = U$250.

It's one model newer than the 1600, made May/2000, so little difference.

Picture is clear and text is sharp, happy happy!

Does the Dell picture quality compare well to standard 17" monitors? I like the fact that mine is bigger, but my old 17" monitor has better quality.

Well, the quality is better than my old 17", a 6 year old Magitronic!

Seriously, the P1110 compares favourably to my other monster, a
Viewsonic P220f, which receives good reviews, and is a refurb also.
