NEC black laser printer

well, i never thought of asking here and i really don't know why. theres an old NEC laser printer, works great, has been for years now. only recently its been starting to print lines, its just the toner getting all over the place and making stripes all over the place, some thick, some thing. its just a mess. i tried cleaning everything in the machine as best i can. theres two parts that are easily removed, the toner(duh) and a roller, it looks metal but it has a green coating and a tiny brush inside. i dunno much about lasers but i asume its a catalyst of some degree. eitherway,it was FULL of toner so i cleaned it really well. still got lines. i used compressed air on it everywhere i could.

is there any hope for this printer?

The green thing is called a photoreceptor. You need to replace it. The black lines indicate one of two things - either the plastic blade which scrapes excess toner off of the drum is leaking, or the charge wire which preps it to carry an electostatic image is contaminated with toner. It's not likely you can take it apart to clean it, so replace it.

The part number is NEC 20-125.

THANK YOU!

edit: someone broke a small peice off that drum(its used in an office), almost positive its the scraper. i never thought anything of it. you've been a big help.

I have the same printer for 5 years. Worked pretty well until one of my college dorm mates broke the toner/drum. I got the same problems you had so I tried replacing the toner (edit I mean photo receptor) first and it has worked fine ever since.
