NEC 3550a dvd burner problem.

Go to device manager and uninstall the controller that the drives are connected to. Right Click->Uninstall.

If you do a "Scan For New Hardware" you can reinstall, or upon reboot, Windows will detect "new devices".

Would you kind enough to please explain the steps on how you did this? NEC's version of the flash, or some 3rd partly like "Liggy and Dee"?

Did it convert it to one of the "Labelflash" drives or whatever it's called? I believe the 3551 and 4551 were these Labelflash drives.

FWIW, I asked NEC if the 3550 could be flashed to a 4551 (and why the file he sent me on media support for firmware v1.06 for the 3550 had the 4550 drive listed in it) and here's their reply:

They probably used the ND-4550 media list as the template to make the
ND-3550 list. The drives are not the same since the ND-4550 adds support
for burning DVD-RAM discs while the media list for the ND-3550 has that
edited out. You will probably damage the drive if you attempt to flash
the drive with the ND-4450 firmware.

That's just FYI, I didn't think they would admit it could be done. So does yours now read DVD-RAM media? And please, see my post quoted above where I asked about your flashing yours to a 4550 (and what you gained from it).
