I love how newegg increases the normal price, to make the difference bigger. I was just looking at this drive yesterday, and it was only $49.

Someone tell me why I would want DVD-RAM capability. I've never even seen the discs anywhere. And tell me before the one day sale is over! :p

Looks like the Egg is making room for the 3540A. Decent price none-the-less.

ya pretty good price.. i found this for 51 shipped at monarch the other day, but nice to see newegg bringin their price down as well..

I dont see reason to pick up the 3540a especially since from what i hear, the firmware upgrade you can stick on the 3520 might not be available on the 3540 :)

DVD-RAM is like a big floppy disk, or removable hard disk on a DVD. If you need to constantly (repeatedly) backup, DVD-RAM is good for. Its life is longer than DVD RW, data reading is also faster (I can be wrong on this one). Panasonic's ealier "Tivo" machine used DVD-RAM, no hard drive - and it can watch one show (from disc), record second show at same time. DVD-RAM can be read by DVD-ROM, so it shouldn't be a problem taking to other machine.

The Black OEM one is currently $49.xx with free shipping - cheaper than the beige one for a switch. I've been wanting to get a black one for my Sonata case & this was a reasonable deal. Thanks.

Thanks OP - I just got the black one with 100 "legacy" 8x dvd blanks as a combo.
burned and verified my first one without trouble- burner works fine - quiet and fast enough - can't complain about $0.3/disk for 8X dvd's if they work.
