NEC 3500 vs. BenQ 1620

I'm trying to figure out which drive is a better burner. Anandtech's review liked the NEC because it was fast, but I personally don't care about that. I don't care about price either. I am going to use the drive to make backups of my computer so it NEEDs to do quality burns. Which drive will burn higher quality disks with the least amount of errors? (I mostly want to burn single layer +Rs)

Don't know about the BenQ drive but I do have 3 - 3500a's & 1 Plextor 708a. All produce quality dvd burns. What's funny is the price I paid for the Plextor was more than the cost of all
3 Nec drives...

BTW I've burned over 250 dvd's

Regards,
Jose

Get a NEC 3500A, flash with this firmware, use FujiFilm/Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD+R media, burn with Nero 6 @ 8x. Perfection.

Use the forums at cdfreaks.com. There's many user generated disc quality scans for various burners. I would say the 1620 is better overall in quality and overburning and doesn't need hacked firmware. The 1620 can also do disc quality scans unlike the 3500A.
